Introduction: Live Edge Table

Today I am making a live-edge desk. It took me about two days to complete this project and would have cost me approximately $400, if I would have had to buy all the materials.

Supplies

Parota Live Edge - $200

3''x3''x36'' Poplar- $25 x4

Semi-Gloss Polyurethane - $12

Metallic Bronze Spray Paint - $7

Graystone Wood Stain - $8

220 Sanding Sheets - $5

320 Sanding Sheets - $5

400 Sanding Sheets - $5

1 in. Galvanized Steel Coupling - $4 x2

1 in. x 36 in. Galvanized Steel Pipe - $22

1 in. Galvanized Cap - $4 x2

Step 1: Applying the Polyurethane

Apply a very thin coat of polyurethane with a fine brush, foam pad, or cloth. Work with the grain, and avoid applying too much polyurethane to avoid raising the grain. The initial coat should be dry within a couple of hours.

Step 2: Finishing the Table Top

The initial coat should be dry within a couple of hours. Then you can sand it with 220 then apply a second coat. Finally, you can sand it with 400 then apply a third coat.

Step 3: Cutting the Lap Joints

We used a miter saw to cut The Notches for the lap joint at a 30-degree angle 16 inches up from the bottom of the board.

Step 4: Joining the Lap Joints Together

Glue the inside of the lap joints and use a screw centered in the joint to hold it together.

Step 5: Staining the Legs

Use the Graystone stain to stain your 1x4 support and The 3x3 legs

Step 6: Drilling the Hole for the Cross Brace

After the glue has dried remove the screw. You can use the screws whole as a pilot hole for the drill bit to drill the hole for the cross brace.

Step 7: Painting the Cross Member

Use the metallic spray paint to paint the Galvanized steel pipes.

Step 8: Assembling Your Legs

Go ahead and slide the 4 inch galvanized pipe into each leg. Next thread on the cap and the coupler unto each side. Finally, thread in the 3-foot cross member.

Step 9: Finished

Now that your projects done you can sit back and admire all your hard work.
