"Looking a Little Spotty"

Introduction: "Looking a Little Spotty"

"Looking a Little Spotty" is an experiment investigating the effects of halftone. Halftone is a way of recreating an image by using dots that vary in size, space, and shape. When you look at a halftone image up close, you will only see spots. However, when you move farther away from the image, you begin to see different shades of gray rather than blank spaces and individual spots.

For my example, I used a picture that I had taken on my iPhone 7 at a local recreation area.

Step 1: Choose Your Image

1. Take a picture of someone's face or an object against preferably a white or neutral toned background.

Step 2: Upload to Software

2. Upload the image to your choice of a graphic design software.

Step 3: Convert to Grayscale

3. Use the grayscale function in your software to make it black and white.

Step 4: Enable Bitmap Option

4. Apply the halftone (or bitmap in this case) filter option to your image.

Step 5: Experiment With Settings to Get Desired Outcome!

5. Play around with the spacing, frequency, and size of your dots to get different results.

Step 6:

Just a thought--can you do this without switching the image to grey tone? I have a really beautiful set of sunset over the lake photos.

I wanted to do the same with the original image, but I found that the bitmap option is not available unless the image is grayscaled.

This is great. I will try it the next time I am playing around with some photos. It would be fun to impress my photographer brother.

That's a neat way to make backgrounds for comic or manga pages :)
