Introduction: MICROPIPETTES
A Micropipettes is a device that can measure and deliver liquid quantities of 1 ml of less. The first of such device was developed by Dr Hanns Schmitz of Germany in 1960 and later on improvised to adjustable version by Warren Gilson and Henry Lardy.
Micropipettes are made for generally fixed volumes, but now models with adjustable volume settings are also available in the market. These are extensively used for clinical and biomedical applications where high accuracy of the range of +/- 1% is desired.
The Micropipettes is made of a glass cylinder provided with a plunger. The plunger is operated by thumb. To use it, a disposable plastic tip is first attached to it.Then plunger is pressed and as we release it the liquid enters the MP. This can further be used to deliver the required quantity at required place. The tip of Micropipettes is its most important part and by changing the tip the same Micropipettes can be used repeatedly without any need of washi.
