Have you every been to a Scentsy party and saw (er smelled) a few scents that you want, or wanted some scents that you cant get from Scentsy or those knock off brands? Have you ever wanted to buy Scentsy bars but couldn't afford them?

IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO THESE QUESTION THIS INSTRUCTABLE IS JUST FOR YOU!!!



In this Instructable, I am going to teach you how to make your VERY OWN Scentcy bars for ROCK BOTTOM PRICES (for the most part...youll see why in the next step!)!!!

I searched the site for an hour and havent found any 'ibles that even relate to Scentsy...so this is the first and original!! yay me...lol

this project started as a valentines day gift for my wife and then it hit me...AN INSTRUCTABLE!!!




***ATTENTION TO ALL: Due to another member's attempt to carry out this project ending in a catastrophic failure for their Scentsy brand warmer, Instructables NOR Myself shall be held responsible should you attempt this project and it does not work in your warmer OR damage occurs to your warmer. If there is an issue, or you need help with this project, please feel free to PM me and I will look into the problem, and attempt to find a resolution. All requisitions made will be received and resolved on a FCFS basis, and assuming I have the available time to find a suitable resolution. STEP 1: Materials

Initially this project may cost as much as the Scentsy bars themselves, HOWEVER it WILL pay off in the long run. if you have the "hardware" already, then this project will cost you ~$1.08 (depending on your state/province's tax rate)

Here is what you will need:

1) A candle in the scent and size of YOUR choice. I personally used the really small one in a glass jar.**
2) A candle "hot plate" or similar item. double boiler works too, just make sure you use a cheap pot.
3) an un-used Scentsy or knock-off brand container (all of the containers are the same really).
4) A container big enough to put Wax In.
5) A Bucket or shallow container big enough to put the Scentsy package in
6) Plenty of time.

**NOTE** The cost of the candle obviously depends on the brand you use and the size!!!

STEP 2: Preparation PT. 1

What you are going to do now is important to making the bars...

First plug in your hot plate and let it warm up. next, take your candle and using a dremel, knife or some other means (i used a dremel but i had no time) scrape out the wax and put it into the container for wax. it is important that you minimize the big chunks of wax, as they will slow down the melting proces of the wax. What you really want is for the wax to be as "powdery" as possible. if you end up with a few big chunks, just pick em out and then get them as small as you can possibly get. when your done with scraping the wax out, put the candle jar on the hot plate. if you left a little residual wax in the jar, thats alright as it will melt and help the melting process and keep the jar from over-heating and breaking.

STEP 3: Preparation PT. 2

After a few minutes the residual wax should have melted...take as much of the powdery wax and fill the jar as full as you can get it without causing problems for the hot-plate (such as wax falling onto the plate and causing a fire. if this does happen, sit there and wait for the wax to burn off the plate, and then you will be ok to leave the room). HOWEVER MONITOR THE WAX/HOT-PLATE!!! AT ANY POINT SOMETHING CAN GO ASCUE AND A FIRE CAN BREAK OUT.

Whenever that bit of wax is melted, keep putting in more and more wax (little to big) until the jar is as full as you can get it...again, without causing problems for the hot-plate.

This is really a waiting game now.

STEP 4: Pour the Mould

Now it the tedious part...you will now  take the melted "vat" of wax and pour it into the Scentsy container...you need to be quick BUT CAREFUL. this stuff is hot and if not poured fast and carefully enough will get all over, and will be wasted. once you pour the mould you cant just melt more and add to it. it will cool and set too fast. i had to learn the hard way (just refer to my pictures and you will see the "mess") You WILL get some of the wax on the surface your working on and in the nooks and crannies of the mould.

STEP 5: Rapid Cooling for the Impatient

Now if you want to finish the project faster, you will have to take the bucket, or containter just bigger than the Scentsy package and fill it with water to just below the rim of the package opening. you dont want water getting trapped in the wax. Now close the package and in a level manner as to not spill the wax, put the "assembly" into the container with water. leave it in there for ~1/2 hour or so. By this time the water will have cooled the wax to a hardened state. when you feel its fully hardened, you can take the packaging out of the bucket/container. now wipe off the water from the package.

STEP 6: TADA!!!

Now you are finished with your Scentsy bar...below i have includes pictures of the bar not ready, and a bar that is ready to be taken out of the mould...after you take the bar out of the mould, crack off the residual wax and either keep it for later, OR throw it away (which would be a sheer waste.

So, here's some things I immediately noticed:

This isn't actually cost-effective as you are melting wax, and then pouring it into 'clamshells.' This is going to kill a lot of the scent and will require more wax in the long run. And most candles are going to be more expensive and won't last as long as actual Scentsy wax.

Scentsy uses food-grade paraffin wax specifically for it's lower melting point, so your Scentsy warmer isn't going to heat your candle wax very well.

You might void your warranty if you ruin your warmer trying to be cheap.

Yes, Scentsy wax looks a little pricey compared to the garbage waxes you can buy at Walmart, for $3 but an entire bar lasts just as long, if not longer, than a regular sized candle.

In the long run you're going to get better quality and better fragrances with Scentsy, honestly.

Great idea for 'left over' candles! I use a small amount of purified beeswax in my DIY moisturizer. It's very easy to melt in a stainless steel bowl over a pot of boilng water and I would think the candle wax would be likewise. Plus the bowl is easy to handle and pour!

This has been my only problem with "Scentsy"......the wax just doesn't hold the "fragrance" very long, so replacing it "often" can get a bit pricey....thank you so much.....This is a great ideal, and one I am going to try..............I wonder about the "molds" though, could you use "plastic ice trays" ? and then float the ice tray in he bucket of water?................thanks again..Judy

sorry for the late reply judy, by now I am sure you've figured out the answer (I've been having issues logging into instructables). BUUUT, yes, I am sure you could "float" the tray in cool water, but I doubt it would be as effective as putting the tray in the freezer.

Use a cheese grater from the dollar tree and grate the candles. Use it just for this... Works great!!

that is a good hack as well. I remember making paraffin and yellow pine tree chips fire starters. we used a cheese grater then lol. I didn't think about that when I made the Ible lol

I am not surr how its. So i need the regular candle from walmart or any store and melt it together with scenty and put it on the ice cube tray or any that not gonna brake when we put the hot melt wax??????

Yesterday for Mothers Day, I received an "Of-the-wall-Brand" warmer along with 4 of their packs of fragrance wax bars. I am totally new to warming wax although I've thought about trying them. I have 3 dogs and it is positively a must for me to use SOMETHING to counter-attack the doggie oder that comes with having dogs. I've been buying Febreze in the spray bottles, as well as their plug-in oil warmers. Each pack is about 10 bucks. So when I ran across this great idea it really got me thinking. Being a constant DIY person, this got me thinking and Googling. By my reading all kinds of relative pages I learned that wax flakes made from soy melts at the lowest temp and can be bought really cheap and Ebay sells it by the pound for around $6. ALso, I saw one ad for 3 lbs for $10.98. Also found that there's a ton of different fragrance oils that also is very cheap....less than 10 bucks buys an 8 oz. bottle, or $1.65 for 1 oz. Buying a fragrance candle to melt down, to make the cubes for a warmer seems like a waste of money to me. Someone makes the fragrance candles and has to make a profit. You can make your own scented wax by just melting the soy wax, add a few drops of the fragrant oil, pour into the molds and you've left out the middle man. A 3 lbs. of wax and an ounce of fragrance oil for about $20....wonder how many 3 lbs would make. I'm going to give it a shot. Thank you, Sokami, for this great instructible. I never would have thought of making these, by ANY method, if not for you taking the time to share this with us.

So I tried this and it does make cubes but they wouldn't melt right in my scentsy warmer, it left a mess and ruined the dish thing. I called my scentsy lady and and she said it's because they use a different wax not the same as candles so it melts at a different temp. So needless to say it cost me more cause it voided my warranty and I had to buy a new top for my warmer and the cost of the candle and warmer plate. It might work for other brands but I would not recommend it for scentsy brand stuff.

I used a mini ice cube tray , after I put the hot wax in the tray you can use scented oil drops to resent

For those candles that have a high melt temp, add a few tsp of coconut oil to the mix! Low melt rate and works!

This will not work for the Scentsy warmers due to the fact that they do not get hot enough to melt the wax from most candles. Scentsy uses a wax that has a low heat melting point for their warmers. They do sell warmers at Bath and Body work and a few other places that would get hot enough for this to work with. They are electric warmers made for use with scent tarts. Scent tarts are most often made from the same type of wax that is used in most candles. So this should work with these electric warmers where they are most likely to fail with the Scentsy warmers. I think the warmers are between $10-20. The one tip I have for those of you who have Scentsy warmers and want to be able to make your own scents is to reuse your wax and just add drops of essential oils to the wax after you place it into the plastic container so you can determine how much scent you want each block to have. You can experiment with scents and smells and add less or more essential oil depending on how strong you want them to be. I hope this is helpful.

it will work. but for only certain candles. if it didnt work for the brand i posted, i wouldnt have posted the ible.i have used my wife's scentsy warmer to test this project 3 times on 3 candles. it works every time for certain types of candle wax. i do not post ibles without first making sure that it works. if it doesnt work, then i simply dont take pictures, and i do not start the editing process. i have already mentioned on this instructable that NOT ALL candles will work with this project. PLEASE READ THE WHOLE IBLE and not just one page.

I use these in my scentsy's all the time and have never ever yet (and have used MANY!) found a one that didn't work and/or ruined my scentsy. It's a much cheaper way to go. My only question to you Sokamiwohali is why do all the work when you can just go to Walmart, target, walgreens any of these stores or others and buy them for just $2! It's still much cheaper than $5 and you don't have all the work or mess ; )

I have stopped using the blocks all together. Cheaper to buy the candles that are in powder form and just take a T spoon out at a time. At the end I have a neat looking jar:)
