Introduction: Make a Book From Household Items!!!

I often like to create new items from objects around me to cure my boredom. In fact, I learned how to make a book from household objects in middle school by myself and since then, I have been making tons of them big and small and have a variety of colors in their covers. I would often draw in them and write short stories in the books for more personalization. I have been seeing people bind books traditionally, but that takes up a lot of time. In this article, I am happy to show you how you can make a book from household objects in about 10 minutes!

Supplies

Materials needed:

  • Paper (printer or ruled)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or Bottled Glue (Bottled glue is recommended)
  • Stapler (must be loaded with staples)
  • Colored paper or other materials for covers (leather, light cardboard, etc.)

Step 1:

Grab a nice chunk of paper. The chunk of paper must have 3 - 12 pieces of paper.

Step 2:

FOR A BOOK IN PORTRAIT VIEW:

Fold the chunk of paper hamburger style (vertically). Cut the crease with a pair of scissors to get 2 smaller chunks of paper, and fold the smaller chunks hotdog style (horizontally).

FOR A BOOK IN LANDSCAPE VIEW:

Fold the chunk of paper hotdog style (horizontally). Cut the crease with a pair of scissors to get 2 smaller chunks of paper, and fold the smaller chunks hamburger style (vertically).

Step 3:

Grab a stapler and staple next to the crease of the smaller chunks of paper 1-3 times (1 in the middle and 2 on top and bottom). If you want to make more small booklets for a longer book, you’re more than welcome to do so by repeating Steps 1, 2 and 3.

Step 4:

Grab colored paper or other materials for covers (leather, light cardboard, etc.); you can find plenty of those in your local hobby store, lay the material in landscape view and apply glue from bottled glue or a glue stick on the back of the stapled booklet, specifically to the back of the staples, and slam the booklet to the right of the material. Repeat the gluing process to another booklet but put glue on top of the first booklet and then slam that booklet on top of the first you slammed on the material. Repeat this process for the rest of the booklets you have.

Step 5:

Grab the left corner of the material, and cover up the last booklet slammed on top of the booklet(s). Make sure the last booklet has glue covered on its staples before you do this. For the best measurement, fold the material on where the booklets are, and then cut the creases with scissors.

Step 6: You Are Done!!

And you are done! If you want to label the book anything you want, you can! You can draw, write short stories, write instructions for a cooking recipe, write notes for an upcoming exam for school - you can do whatever you want in your new book!! You can even give these books to your friends and family as birthday or Christmas gifts.
