This is a very simple but awesome build for all of those Doctor Who geeks out there like myself.

Materials:

-Approximately 6' of 3/4" x 4.5" wood.

-1/8" thick sheet of acrylic

-LED light strip

-12v DC adapter and switch

-Vinyl Decal

Tools:

-Basic woodworking tools (table saw, miter saw, brad nail gun, and glue)

-Vinyl Cutter

Step 1: Add Vinyl Decal to Acrylic.

My first step was adding my vinyl decal to the cut piece of acrylic. You can buy Optix brand acrylic sheets at Home Depot for $11.00 for a 18"x 24" piece.

Step 2: Cutting the Pieces for the Box / Assembly.

Cut the pieces for a simple mitered box. I cut a 1/8" deep groove the width of my saw blade 1/4" from each edge of the board on one side. This will be the inside of the box and will accept the acrylic for both sides of the box. One side will be used as an access door for the lights. After cutting all of the pieces, cut thru the groove on one of the small side pieces. Save the off-fall, this will be used as a pull for the access door.

I used a brad nail gun and glue to build the box around the acrylic sheets.

Now is a good time to paint!

Step 3: Adding the LEDs.

I used a strip of LEDs with self adhesive backing and glued them to the inside of the box after wiring everything up. You can find these types of strips on Amazon or Ebay for cheap. Make sure to find one with a matching power adapter and switch.

Step 4: Power Up!
