Introduction: Make a Buoy for Your Digicam
A few years ago waterproof cameras were big, heavy and most of them needed additional plumb to stay under water.
But good old times changed and nowadays the waterproof cameras are small, lightweight, record movies in high definition but they sink in water.
O.k. modern things are not always bad, you get quite good pictures with these small wonders, but the sinking is a big annoyance.
Step 1: So Lets Built a Buoy for It.
But not just a buoy, but a floating tray, on which the camera is served every time it is needed.
What you need is:
a small ring of styrofoam 17cm diameter (You can get this from your local hand craft shop, it is intended to be used to make a wreath)
some cloth 60 x 30 cm (I took organza, which is synthetic, light weight and open.)
some thread to sew it
a sewing pin or a sewing machine
an old shoelace
Step 2: Prepare the Cloth
First cut the organza to make two pieces of cloth that are bigger than the styrofoam ring.
Put the styrofoam ring on top of them and draw the inner circle with some pen. Sew the two pieces together along the line that you just made.
Tie the shoelace around the ring.
Step 3: Sew It
Now take the upper part of the cloth and pull it through the ring.
Get the two pieces together again on the outside of the ring and fix it with small pins.
Now we only need to sew around the thing to get it close. Take care the shoelace is also good connected to the seam.
After the first round of sewing the thing is closed and the edges of the organza might be trimmed. Then, without interrupting the sewing, change the stitching style from straigt to zigzag and fringe the border.
Carefully make a knot between the beginning and the end of the thread.
Step 4: Use It!
To use it, just loop the wrist strap of the camera through the shoelace and fix the buoy to the camera.
Have fun in the water!

What a great idea! I'm definitely going to make this! I was going to Walmart to pick up some medication today and I'm glad I saw this before. I just need to foam weath form. I have the rest of the materials at home. Hooray! My husband and one of my daughters has the exact same camera. I think I may put the tied end of the shoelace on the inside of the organza and leave the "smooth" loop of the shoelace out to connect to the camera. Great idea!!! Thank you so much!

This is great! i made a simple version too... just hooked a couple fishing buoys to the wrist strap. Works like a charm, but yours is much nicer.

Yeah, I was looking for something like a buoy, but couldn't find any. I'm not living near the sea or some bigger lake and they don't sell these kind of things in the shops for consumer electronics... ;-)

Good thinking AndyK. I made a buoy for mine too. Well, it is more like a float. I used a chunk of pool noodle just under 2 3/4" long with a piece of 1/2"pvc in the hole that fits in snugly and flush on both sides. The PVC is so that the paracord that I looped through it won't rip through the foam. All you need to do then is attach the wrist band to the paracord loop with a larks head knot. Works great! Your idea is nice cause the buoy is wide enough to put your hand through.

Well, it would be wide enough to put your hand throught, but the opening in the middle is closed with the fabric. You can also use it to float a whiskey glass with it... But with a small elastic tape opening, the function would be the same and you could even stick your hand trough, good idea!
