Introduction: Making Distilled Water

Hello

I wanted distilled water for my soap and couldn't find it at my local shop ,so I decided to make my own.

It's a very simple method and can make a lot of distilled water at home.

Supplies

Make sure everything fits before you buy.

What you need:-

1- pressure cooker.

2- bucket (one that can withstand heat without melting or deforming)

3- silicone for sealing.

4- copper pipe about 10mm width.

5- small hose(the kind used by small pumps for fish tanks and the like) make sure it can fit tightly with the copper pipe and the pressure cooker.

6- tap water.

7- drill.

Step 1: Making the Distillation Tool

1- Make a hole at an angle at the bottom of the bucket the same size as the copper pipe or slightly bigger.

2- Shape the copper pipe into a spiral inside the bucket (be careful as the pipe has a special way for bending)

3- Insert the copper pipe end through the hole you made.

4- Seal the bucket hole with silicon from the inside and outside and leave it to dry completely.

Step 2: Using the Tool You Made

Connect a hose between the top of the copper pipe and the pressure cooker and another hose from the bottom end of the copper pipe to the collecting gallon/jar.

Fill the pressure cooker and the bucket with water and start the pressure cooker then just wait for the distilled water to fill the gallon/jar.

When the bottom end of the pipe becomes hot or very warm you can turn off the pressure cooker and wait a couple of hours for the water bucket to cool down then start again.

Step 3: How It Works

After turning on the pressure cooker the tap water inside will boil causing steam to flow thru the hose and the copper pipe where it will cool and condenses into distilled water free of minerals and salt into your container.

Step 4: Tips and Conclusion

Tips:-

1- Make sure the silicon is completely cured before first use.

2- Be careful when shaping the copper pipe into a spiral (better to make this at the shop by an expert)

3- The water will get hot at the top and slowly the heat moves to the bottom ,when the bottom gets hot you can pause(or not) for few hours until the water cools down then continue again.

4- Making the hose from the pressure cooker as short as possible is very recommended.

5- Make sure to refill the water in the pressure cooker every 1 hour or so.
