Introduction: Mandalorian Cosplay Helmet

About: Hey! I am a high school student in Southern California. I love CAD, 3d printing, and rocketry!

Hello everyone! In this tutorial, you will be able to make a Mandalorian helmet! The Mandalorian helmet is a great way segway to move onto different and more complicated helmet designs. Since helmets are a big print, it may be helpful to slice the .stl files to be able to print the parts on your 3d printed. Below is a link to a page of all Tinkercad shortcuts and the .stl files to print the helmet. I hope you all enjoy it!

Step 1: Main Body

To make the main body of your helmet, grab a cylinder, cut a hole it, then cut it in half. You will also want two boxes rotated towards a small cylindrical part (similar to the back of the helmet).

Step 2: Front Plate

The front plate is probably the most difficult part of this project. Go ahead and make a hole through a cylinder. Make sure the walls are not too thin or thick because this will alter the surface area of the facet of the cheeks. To make the cheeks, pull out a sphere from your toolbox and cut 1/4 of the sphere out. Transform and rotate it, as shown in the picture.

Step 3: Front Glass Panel

The front glass panel is made from a roof and a box. place a small roof part on the bottom. Place a box on top of the roof part. Place another roof part above the box, but upside down and expanded length and width wise. To make these parts curve around the helmet, create a cylinder that has a hole in it. Make sure the cylinder has thick walls, otherwise you will have to remove more material later. The glass panel is actually placed into the helmet, so duplicate your glass panel and make a shallow valley in the front plate. Move your other glass panel backward into the helmet.

Step 4: Side Plate

The side plates consist of a roof part and a few cylinders and boxes. The little emblem is made by cutting off a portion of a box at a 45-degree angle and adding a semi-cylinder on top. Inside those two parts are another box and semi-cylinder, plus a semi-cylinder that has a hole in it. Attach the emblem on top of the sidebar, made from a roof part that has had the point cut off.

Step 5: Back Attachment

The top of the back attachment is made from a roof that has been cut to only show the bottom portion of the roof part. The rest of the back attachment is full of boxes. Make a box and make a shallow indent into the box that is attached to the roof. This will be used to put in your small, upside-down U-shaped boxes. Rotate your U-shaped boxes a little clockwise and you are done!

Step 6: Bands

The bands around the helmet are simply made from a ring that has been cut in half. Rotate and transform your right to fit around your helmet!

Step 7: Done!

Congratulations! You finished your very own Mandolorian helmet. Now that you know the basics, go and experiment with new designs and variations. Go crazy and see what you are capable of!
