Introduction: Mario Bros. Abstract Skateboard Design

Hey guys! This is an instructable to take you step by step on how to make a Mario Bros. Abstract skateboard design! Hope you enjoy it!

Make sure to unscrew and remove the wheels and bolts and keep them somewhere safe for assembly after the project!

Supplies

You will need:

  • a new or used skateboard
  • paint
  • masking tape
  • paint brushes
  • a plastic sheet to place underneath to ensure a mess-free project

Step 1: Sand Your Board

The first step you need to do is to sand your skateboard. Bring it back to its original form. My skateboard had a vinyl, so i peeled all the bits i can, then sanded the rest. I used and orbital sanding machine as it is much faster, but you can use sanding paper, but it will take much more time.

Step 2: Start Painting

I first spray painted the bottom with a couple generous coats of white, let it dry, then I painted the bottom side of the skateboard by using masking tape and placing it randomly to make different shapes. Then I choose my desired colours and painted each separate block with a different colour. I removed and peeled the masking tape while the paint was wet. It should look like an abstract painting in its own way but on a skateboard. I chose to dilute and reduce the saturation of the paint by adding white to it so it kind of becomes pastel.

Step 3: Paint the Top of the Skateboard

After the bottom side has completely dried, flip the board on to the side where you would put your feet and use the board / where the ends of the board curve upwards / the top of the board. Spray paint the top white as well to give it a good and right base to paint on to ensure that the colour is showed to its best of its abilities. I used a reference from google by typing :

''Mario Bros. background''

I used that as a reference picture to sketch out my drawing onto the board. After I sketched it, I used masking tape and covered the parts that aren't to be painted and painted the parts exposed / not covered with masking tape.

It is important to make sure that your are using masking tape as clear tape or any other very sticky tape could peel the white layer beneath. I repeated that until the entire skateboard was covered with the paint. Let that dry completely before using it again. I did 3-4 coats on each colour.

After the skateboard has been painted and completely dried, assemble the parts back together and now you have a Mario Bros. Abstract inspired skateboard!

Thank you so much for reading this all the way through. Hope you enjoyed this instructable as much as i did. Its my first! Thank you so much and i hope I can do more in the future!
