Introduction: Mechatronics - Neon Sign
This project involves creating a Neon Sign using acrylic, LEDs and wood. Step by step instructions are listed below.
Supplies
6 acrylic letters spelling out “Lock in”
2 acrylic circles
1 acrylic sheet (½ in thick)
1 wood cutout
2 LED strip lights with 3 LEDs per
1 9V battery
1 magnet of any size
1 Switch
1 Hot glue gun
Step 1: Clip Acrylic and Wood
Start by attaching a clip to contain the acrylic sheet and wood. (Tip: Put paper underneath the clips to avoid scratches)
Step 2: Apply Glue
Gently apply a semi-thin layer of glue starting with the L letter.
Step 3: Attach
Press down the letter using the cutout provided as a guide. Hold for 15-30 seconds.
Step 4: Repeat Step 2-3
Repeat steps 2-3 for all letters; O C K I N
Step 5: Design Circle
Apply a pattern of your choice onto the circle using the hot glue and press it into the designated space
Step 6: Attach Magnet
Flip over the project. Glue down the magnet on the bottom right of the acrylic
Step 7: Glue Edges
Apply a thin layer of glue on each of the four sides of the project. After you are finished, remove the clips.
Step 8: Glue Switch/button
Glue the button to the middle/top of the acrylic side. Attach the battery to the magnet (no glue needed, it should stick on its own)
Step 9: Attach LED
Firmly press the LED strip against the bottom and on one side of the project. Blue around the four side and hold for 30 seconds. A

Look at the final product, play around with the switch and enjoy your new neon sign.
