These memory card cases are based on this Thing by 4volt. I modified the design to make it look like a camera rather than a tape so I can keep my SD cards safe in my camera bag.

The front and back panels slide off to reveal a compartments for a total capacity of 8 SD cards. The design features living springs in the sliding panels so they latch in place. The viewfinder is both side so when that side of the case is empty you can look through it like on a real camera!

Step 1: Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials Used

3mm Acrylic
- For SD Cards - 20cm x 10cm
- For CF Cards - 22cm x 15cm

Tools Used

Laser Cutter
Glue - I used Impact adhesive but anything that will work on Acrylic.

Step 2: Step 2: Download and Cut the CAD Files

The Cad Files can be downloaded from here.

In the design, there are two types of line so you should set up your laser accordingly.

White Lines - Cut
Green Lines - Vector Engrave

Check the picture of the design above in case the colours aren't the same in your laser control software.

I cut the parts out of 3mm black acrylic but I guess you could use other colours or materials as long as they are 3mm thick.

Tip:

The acrylic I used had white protective film on which worked out really nicely for this design. If you leave it on while you cut the pieces, you can peel it off afterwards leaving bits on for the detail of the flash and the switch on the back.

Step 3: Step 3: Assemble the Parts

Before opening the glue, place all the parts together as a 'dry run' to make sure they all fit together nicely and you can see how it will go together.

Once you're happy with the assembly, glue the parts together as shown. The front and back panels do not need to be glued as they need to slide in and out. Clean off any excess glue around the joints as you go.

Before the glue dries, it's best to make sure that the case is square and that there's enough space for the front and back panels to slide in and out smoothly. Once you've done this, make sure you take the front and back panels out again and let the glue dry thoroughly before using the case.
