Introduction: Metal Puzzle Friendship Necklace

In this instructable  I will show you how to make these really cute puzzle necklaces. I made the puzzle in a large variant for school a few years ago and now I wanted to do something a bit different with this puzzle. I'm not that good at soldering but  I hope you like it!

Step 1: Materials

So what do you need?
- Wire ( I used two paperclips)
- Pliers
- Soldering iron
- Solder
- CD disc cleaning solution (something else would work as well but my dad had this)
- yarn

Step 2: The Heart

We're going to start with the heart. I didn't use precise measurements, the only important thing is that the middle of the heart is smaller than the loops of the straight and U-formed part. I reshaped it a little bit further in my process.

Step 3: Just a Straight Line

Take the same amount of wire you used for the heart and cut it in half. In this step we're just going to use one part of it. Make sure it is straight. Atr the beginning and at the end, bend loops. Twist them a bit so that they stand straight at the line. The size of the loops doesn't really matter, as long as the middle of the heart is smaller it is OK.

Step 4: U

Take the other half of your piece of wire. Again, bend te beginning and the end in a loop. Instead of leaving it straight, bend the middle into  a U shape. 
Open the loops for the U shape and add the straight line.
Now you can already start to puzzle. But, don't cheat, I'm watching you!

Step 5: Solder

There are a few points you will need to solder: The tip of the heart and the two loops of the straight line. Preheat the soldering iron. Hold it against the place you want to join. Then take you solder and put it on the heated join. Check your connections really good, it would be a pity if you lose one of the pieces because of a weak soldering spot.

Step 6: Clean It Up

The soldering joints probably look a bit filthy now. No worries, it can be cleaned. I used CD disc cleaning solution for this, but a lot of cleaning stuff will work. Just put a bit on a cotton swap and clean your soldering joints

Step 7: Yarning Time

If you like the pieces, it's time to turn them into pendants. Just take two pieces of yarn and add them to the pieces so you will get two necklaces.

Step 8: Done

Now you have your own unique metal puzzle friendship necklace! Look for someone to share it with :)

    You should totally make the straight bar into an arrow instead!

    Another alternative to the straight bar having loops on the ends, (or as an arrow through the heart), would be to make it into an upper case, (capital letter) 'i', so that all 3 puzzle pieces make up - 'i ♥ u', and neither of those design ideas affect the workings of the puzzle! (Although they would need a little more soldering and wire-work.)

    I own this puzzle. It's larger because it has been made of bike wheel spokes.
