Introduction: Minecraft: the Night Machine

About: He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? But to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. -Micah 6:8

Greetings, fellow Minecraftsmen!

This Minecraft invention will present you with a new challenge! It will furnish you with a more action-packed Minecraft life! After you have gone through this Instructable, you will be able to build the Night Machine, a mechanism that gives new meaning to the gamemode name "Survival." Enjoy and please leave a comment :)

Note: I invented the Night Machine independently of anyone else on March 25, 2014.

Step 1: Preworld Lobby

Okay, since you made it to the first step, I'll assume you are interested. The first thing you will want to do is to select the proper options in the preworld lobby:

- Pick Creative Mode.
- Put cheats on.
- Put the Bonus Chest on. (It will be helpful when you switch to Survival Mode).

Step 2: Clear the Area

Okay, you've spawned in the world. Make a flat area like this. Make sure it is open to the sky. This is where your Night Machine will go. Dig down one more block and replace the dirt in your area with Bedrock. I did not do this, but if you do, finishing will be much simpler. This Bedrock area is where the Night Machine will go.

Step 3: Materials

For this construction, you will need:

- 4 Redstone Repeaters
- 5 bits of Redstone wire
- 1 Redstone Torch
- Bedrock
- 1 Command Block. You can't find this in the Creative Mode inventory, nor can you get a Command Block in Survival. To obtain it you must type into the chat:

/give (your Minecraft name here) 137

Step 4: The Timing Mechanism

Brace yourself. This is going to be a bit complicated. Please remain calm. If extreme quantities of frustration build up, please do not take it out on your computer :)

You will need to construct a Redstone Repeater clock, like in the picture. Put the delays on the shortest delay as shown. If you are having trouble following the picture, go here:

Put another bit of Redstone wire on the corner.

Step 5: The Command Block

Stick the Command Block at the end of the Redstone wire, as seen in the picture. After the Command block has been placed, open its interface, and type this into it:

/time set 18000

This is the command for midnight.

Step 6: Start Her Up

Place a Redstone Torch next to one of the bits of Redstone wire. Destroy it immediately. The Repeater circuit should be cycling, and the time of day will change to midnight. However, your screen will soon be cluttered with messages. We will fix that later.

Step 7: The Casing

Now, encase the Night Machine in Bedrock. You should have made the bottom of this box earlier. The Bedrock shell will keep all extra light in, but its main purpose is to help keep you from giving in to any temptation to dismantle the mechanism and to keep you from taking anything from it once you've switched to Survival Mode. Which brings us to the next step...

Step 8: Final Settings

Alright, you are done building things, so get rid of all the stuff in your inventory. No cheating!

Now give the Survival command:

/gamemode 0

This will change the game mode to Survival.

And that's all well and good, but at this point, you are probably pretty annoyed with the text filling your screen. To fix that, pause the game and pick Options... > Multiplayer Settings > Chat. Click the button until it says "Chat:  Hidden." This will remove the scrolling text, but you will be unable to give any other commands while this feature is on. After you have made the chat disappear, change the difficulty to a non-peaceful setting to begin the fight.

That's it! Now start fending off the gobs of mobs that will come for your blood. Good luck! You are going to need it.
