Mini Origami Envelopes

Intro: Mini Origami Envelopes

This instructable will teach you to make little functioning origami envelopes! I'm using mine to put little notes in a care package, but the possibilities are endless!

STEP 1: Materials:

For this project you will need:

- Origami paper, mine is 5 7/8' squares, but you can definitely use smaller or larger. If you're really brave, you can also try to cut perfect squares out of construction/printer paper instead of using origami paper.
- Glue (if you're planning on stuffing 3D objects like candy in the envelope)
- Hard flat surface to fold on

STEP 2: Fold the Paper in Half Diagonally

Place your paper pretty side down, white side up on your folding surface. Fold your paper in half on the diagonal, so it makes a triangle.

STEP 3: Unfold the Triangle

Unfold the triangle fold and lay the paper flat, pretty side down, white side up, so you can see the diagonal crease you just made.

STEP 4:

Grab the point at the bottom of the paper, and fold it up into a small triangle with the top of the triangle just barely touching the diagonal fold line, crease well!

STEP 5: Fold the Bottom Section Upward at the Crease

Grab the bottom half of the paper where you just made your triangle, and fold the entire bottom half up onto the top half, using the original crease as a hinge. See pictures. Recrease the crease.

STEP 6: More Triangles...

Grab the point on the LEFT side of the triangle, fold it inward to about the half way point. Use the picture as a guide, but ignore the side I did first, I have no idea why I crease the right side first, do the left. Seriously.

This part takes a bit of guesswork, when you fold the other side, you may need to go back and adjust where this side folds, so crease it lightly.

STEP 7: Repeat!

Fold the right side over the same way so it overlaps. You want the tip of the right corner to reach all the way to the corner of the envelope on the left, this is important for the next step. See picture.

STEP 8: More Triangles...

Grab the tip of the right side, which should be rest on the bottom left of the envelope. Fold it back on itself to make a mini triangle, with the tip now resting on the bottom right side of the envelope. Crease it well, here comes the fancy footwork!

PS- Sorry for the blurriness of some of the pictures, its hard to fold with one hand and snap iphone pictures with the other! Lol!

STEP 9: Fancy Footwork...you're Almost There!

Grab the bottom of the little triangle and bring it to stand straight up, so its in the center of the envelope and point directly up (3D). Stick your index finger in between the two layers in the center of the mini triangle that's sticking up, place your thumb on the center crease right in front of you, so you're grabbing the center of the triangle crease on both sides, see pictures.

Using your index finger to direct, use your thumb to push down and create a diamond in the bottom center of the envelope. Crease the bottom edges of the diamond.

STEP 10: Glue If Filling With 3D Goodies...

If you intend to put 3D surprises such as candies in your envelopes, put a little bit of glue under the left side flap of the diamond. Put under a book to dry.

STEP 11: Fold Down the Envelope Flap...

Fold the top part of the envelope down so it overlaps your diamond.

STEP 12: Tuck in the Top!

Tuck the top point of your envelope into the mini diamond!

STEP 13: Ta Da!

All done! Stuff them with mini love notes, tiny candies (Dove chocolates are the perfect size for mine), or whatever! Have fun!
