Introduction: Miniature Theater Stage

In this Instructable I will be showing you how to make a miniature theater stage with curtains!

Supplies

  1. Hot glue gun
  2. Box cutter
  3. Black paint
  4. Paint brush
  5. Ruler
  6. Pencil
  7. 5 inch long by 2 1/2 tall piece of fabric
  8. Needle and Thread
  9. Balsa Wood with exact measurements in photo above

Step 1: Cutting Wood Pieces

  1. Cut one piece 5 inches long.
  2. Cut two more pieces 3 5/16 inches long
  3. Assemble the pieces as the photo shows with hot glue, school glue, (I used a different glue in the beginning but it took to long to dry so I switched to hot glue)
  4. You only need to worry about the length of the wood not the height because the wood is already pre-cut.

Step 2: Front of Stage/Proscenium

  1. Cut a piece of wood 5 inches long.
  2. Draw the Proscenium according to the image with measurements and you should have something like the 3rd image shown.
  3. Cut out the stage wall hole.
  4. Glue to the assembled structure connecting the top to the smaller roof and the bottom to the floor (longer piece of wood).

Step 3: Painting & Background (Optional)

  1. I decided to paint the inside and some of the outside black, this is optional but I think it is a nice touch.
  2. I also decided to print out a background and glued it to the back wall of the stage.
  3. If you want to paint the inside of the stage make sure to do it before the sides.

Step 4: Back

  1. Cut two pieces 11/16 of and inch long.
  2. Glue them in the gaps of the back wall so it is filled.

Step 5: Curtains

  1. Grab two 5 inch long 2 1/2 tall piece of fabric (Color of your choice).
  2. Make sure the fabric is not to thin or thick.

Step 6: How to Make a Curtain.

  1. Make a mark at each 1/2 inch on the 5 inch piece of fabric. x2

Step 7: Sewing Curtains

  1. Fold along the lines until the fabric looks like the picture above.
  2. Use the needle and thread to secure folds together by making knots on both ends of the fabric and middle.
  3. Make sure you at least double knot.
  4. x2

Step 8: Attaching Curtains

  1. Glue a small piece of the wood on the top of the curtain (The side showing the folds neatly)
  2. Glue the side of the wood not connected to the fabric right above the right and left side of the proscenium.
  3. x2

Step 9: Sides

  1. Cut two pieces 3 1/8 inch long.
  2. Attach them to the sides of the stage as shown in the pictures as shown above.
  3. (Optional) Paint.
