Introduction: Minimalistic Christmas Tree

I decided to make this cheap and minimalistic Christmas tree decoration because everyone can make it, and it's perfect for decorating your house with kids and family.

It is made from paper cones of different sizes, which give it a beautiful curved shape and make the necessary materials accessible to almost anyone. This makes it great for families and for last-minute decorating, as it is a simple, step-by-step project that you can complete in under 25 minutes.

I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

Supplies

For this craft, you will need:

  1. 2 pieces of paper
  2. some paper towels
  3. a pair of scissors
  4. a compass
  5. a ruler
  6. PVA glue (and a paintbrush to spread it)
  7. some fairy lights for decoration (optional)

Step 1: Draw an Arc on the Paper

Open the compass to 12cm as shown in the picture, place the sharp end of the compass on the edge of the paper, aiming about in the middle, and then draw an arc.

Step 2: Fold Another Piece of Paper

Take another piece of paper and fold it in half. Next, open the paper and fold one corner toward the line.

Step 3: Draw an Arc That Ends on the Line You Created

Open your compass to 11cm and place the sharp end of the compass where the middle line meets the edge of the paper. Now draw an arc that stops at the diagonal fold.

Step 4: Draw an Arc at the Corner of the Paper

On the same piece of paper, place the sharp end of your compass (that is open to 11cm) on a corner where there is the most space and draw another arc.

Step 5: Now Cut the Arcs You Drew Out

Cut the arcs you drew out, just like it is shown in the picture.

Step 6:

Next, apply PVA glue along the flat edge of the cut piece, then roll it into a cone shape.

Step 7: Roll Up the Other Pieces of Paper

Continue rolling the other two pieces of paper into cones of different sizes. It should look something like this.

Step 8: Begin Assembling the Tree

Apply glue to the inside edge of the medium-sized cone, then carefully place it on top of the biggest cone.

Step 9: Do the Same With the Smallest Cone

Apply glue to the inside of the smallest cone, then place it on top of the medium cone.

Step 10: Make the Paper Towel Strips

Cut around two paper towels into about four-centimetre strips. (I just cut the paper towel into six equal strips)

Step 11: Fold and Cut the Paper Towel

Fold one of the strips in half, and start making minor vertical cuts that end just before the edge of the paper towel. Do this for all of the pieces.

Tip: You can scrunch up the paper towel and unfold it to make the tree more fluffy.

Step 12: Wrap the Christmas Tree With the Paper Towels

Apply glue to the edge of the paper towel without cuts, and wrap it around the Christmas tree, starting at the bottom. Keep wrapping it with more strips, going upward in a spiral.

Make sure the layers are overlapping at least a bit.

Step 13: Wrap It Up (;

When you are done wrapping it up, it should look something like this.

You may wish to make another smaller Christmas tree by making a small cone and wrapping it with more paper towels. You can also make a star for the top of the tree.
