Introduction: Mod - Add a Touchpad to a Wireless Keyboard
Who what why did you add a touchpad to a keyboard? To which I respond "isn't it obvious?" But, if you insist - perhaps this, or this or this might tickle your fancy? Wait, the last one is not about keyboards, but does it matter? Isn't it hilarious? hhaha haha
Long story short - this is a keyboard mod for touchpad addicts who lose productivity whenever they reach out to find their mouse. Or, like me, you spent years using a 13 inch MacBook with a conveniently situated trackpad that you just could never get enough of.
Supplies
Components:
- Keyboard used - Logitech k350 - Amazon link
- You could probably find a cheaper keyboard. This is the one I had a available.
- Touchpad used - Perixx PERIPAD-501 - Amazon link
- This is definitely the cheapest one on amazon
Tools:
- X-acto knife
- Hot glue gun
- Drill + drill bit
Step 1: Take the Touchpad and the Keyboard Apart
Careful not to lose the screws.
Step 2: Measure and Cut Out the Trackpad's Installation Region
Use an X-acto knife (or any similarly suitable cutting instrument) to cut out the rectangular patch.
Step 3: Drill a Hole Through the Top Plate for the Touchpad's Flex Cable
Step 4: Pass the Touchpad's Flex Cable Through the Hole and Hot Glue the Touchpad in Place
Generously spread hot glue onto the base and hold the touchpad in place until the hot glue cools off.
Step 5: Drill a Hole for the Touchpad's USB Cable
Step 6: Reconnect the Touchpad's Flex Cable and Reassemble the Keyboard With Screws
After adding back all the screws, seal the edges of the trackpad for aesthetics
