Introduction: Moorish Marshmallow
This delicious snack has been around for generations. It's enjoyed when camping, birthday parties, chocolate fountains and many more well remembered times. I hope you enjoy my marshmallow.
Step 1: Ingredients
For this delicious marshmallow you will need:
- 910 grams of sugar (2 pounds)
- 320 mls of boiling water (10.8 fluid ounces)
- 60 grams of gelatin (2 ounces)
- 1 cup of cold water
For strawberry marshmallow you will need:
- 15 strawberries (ours were frozen)
Step 2: Prepare the Tins
Before you even think of making this marshmallow you need to prepare the tins. Grease them with a lump of butter then pour icing sugar into them. Shake this all around then dump it upside down on your bench to remove the excess icing sugar. You can use the excess sugar to coat smaller squares.
Step 3: Soak the Gelatin
Pour the cold water into a bowl with the gelatin and stir it. Leave this soaking for 5 minutes.
Step 4: Time to Boil
Pour the sugar in to a pan and add the boiling water. Bring the liquid to the boil and add the soaked gelatin, boiling for 20 minutes.
Step 5: Adding the Vanilla
Pour the liquid into a cake mixer bowl and add the vanilla. Lower the beater and mix until thick. This might take up to ten minutes.
Step 6: Into the Tins
After the whirl of the mixer has died down remove the attachment and pour half of this into the tins. You can use whatever tins you wish, our were 90mm by 60mm rectangular.
Step 7: Pink Marshmallow
To make pink strawberry marshmallow pour 1/2 cup of blended strawberry's into the remaining marshmallow.
Step 8: Smoothing Off the Tins
Use a flat scraper to smooth the top of each tin.
In the third photo we made the marshmallow layer sandwich. To make it, place some marshmallow into a dish and while it is still soft and sticky pour on the strawberry layer.
Leave for 3 hours to set.
Step 9: Out of the Tins
When the marshmallow has set, use a scraper to lift them out of the tins. You will have to keep coating the scraper in icing sugar to stop it sticking to the marshmallow.
Step 10: Cut Into Squares
Use a knife coated in icing sugar to cut. Remember to keep topping up that icing sugar.
Step 11: The Marshmallow Sandwich
Cut it into pieces then roll in icing sugar.
I hope you enjoy this marshmallow.
