Movable Immovable Workbench

I have a small (12' x 9') shed/workshop and I have lots of hobbies so the space needs to be flexible. I move things around to suit what I'm working on. As you can see, the anvil is on 'workbench casters' so that I can move it about then drop it down to work on.

Contrarily, the workbench casters would not be suitable for my workbench. I use the vices for blacksmith jobs and really need to pull and twist on them. So I needed to come up with something else and this solution works well for me.

Step 1: I'm a Material Girl. I Mean 'boy'. I Mean 'man'.

Materials:

Solid garage style cane bolt

Short section of iron pipe that fits the bolt fairly snugly

Piece of angle iron same length as the pipe

Extra timber for fixings if you need it

Screws

Tools:

Welder

Screwdriver

Step 2: It's a Funny Old Weld

Weld the piece of pipe to the angle iron

Step 3: Fit

Do a dry test run of the pieces and mark where they will; have to go.

Attach the bolt fixings to the bench first, obviously leaving enough room for the pipe piece.

Step 4: Gone to the Wall

Put the pipe piece in place on the bolt, attached to the bench. Then slide the bench to the wall and mark precisely the spot where the pipe piece needs to go. I needed to bring mine out a bit and also use the long bit of timber to get a secure fixing on my shed studwork.

Step 5: Stop. Go. Stop. Go.

I was going to attach one at either end, but one has proved a solid enough anchor. It takes a second to lock it tight.
