Intro: Mr and Mrs Knit Dishcloths

I wanted to make my cousin and his wife something for their wedding gift. I thought it would be fun to knit dishcloths since I like to do that now :) Instead of doing the whole "His" and "Hers" dishcloths, I went with "Mr" and "Mrs".

Here is how you can knit your own Mr and Mrs dishcloths / washcloths.

STEP 1: Supplies

Ending washcloth is about 7 1/2" by 7 1/2". If someone uses Sugar'n Cream yarn, I'd love to hear how big yours ends up being. I imagine, based on counts, it would be like the Instructables Robot dishcloth at about 7" by 8".

100% Cotton Yarn (I used a 100% mercerized cotton yarn that is thiner than Sugar'n Cream so if you use this, your washcloth will probably be a bit bigger than mine)
Knitting Needles Size 4 (3.5mm) - round knitting needles work as well
Counter - this can be helpful with keep track of stitches or rows
Yarn Needle
Yarn Marker - not pictured (optional)
Patterns attached

Stitches you need to know:

Cast On (C/O)
Knit (K)
Purl (P)
Bind Off (B/O)

STEP 2: Mrs Pattern - Bottom Edge

After casting on, we are going to start with the bottom border which is sometimes referred to as a seed stitch.

Now, you are going to need to keep track of where you are as you go and there are different ways you can do this. Since I was writing this up from the image as I went 1) I used the counter to keep track of what row I was on, 2) used the pattern to get the right count with the stitches, and 3) crossed out the rows on my printout as I finished them.

That might be overkill, so do what works for you.

Pattern:
(Total Stitches Across: 43 - Pattern Stitches Across: 35)

C/O 43

Rows 1-6: (K1, P1) to last stitch, K1

STEP 3: Mrs Pattern - Image

Alright, I did this dishcloth similarly to this knit cat dishcloth. So, I started from the bottom right of the pattern, essentially, and worked my way up to the top left of the pattern.

Since the beginning of this pattern is basically long rows of knit, lots of purl, then knit again, I used a marker to show me where to stop purling so I could just go at it on that row and not have to pay attention as closely. This is optional, of course. This won't really work for the rows when they get more complicated, but do whatever works for you.

STEP 6: Finish Dishcloths

When you are done, feel free to wash them and block them to make them all nice looking.

Like I said in the supplies step, I used a different yarn than I did for the Robot Dishcloth. This pattern has the same number of rows and the same number of stitches across as the Robot Dishcloth. The last picture shows these dishcloths laying on top of the robot one to show you how the size varies.

STEP 7: Gift Them

If you want to gift them to someone, it can be cute to roll them up and tie them with a little ribbon.
