Introduction: Much Improved Bike Hoist

My bike hoist was installed on a 2 level garage loft. Many's the time when the pulley get jammed, or the hooks are too just light to be lowered empty. This is a simple hack to fix both.

I should've done this during initial installation. :)

Supplies

  • Sand
  • 1 qtr juice bottles of any type with lid
  • 14 AWS wires
  • Various hand tools
  • 2 pairs of pulley guides STL attached

Step 1: Add Some Wieghts

This step is simple: Remove hooks from pulley assembly. Fill in the water bottles with sand to about 2 lbs each. Use wires to tie onto bike hooks

Step 2: Testing Sleeve Guard

The whole problem is there's about 1/4" free play on the wheel axels. I CAD designed a test sleeve to stop wheels from sliding one the axel. Took one off to test fitting, and it works very nicely

Step 3: Install and Reattach Everything

I was very happy & printed 6 for every pulley needed. I needed to rotate the hooks 90º so weight bottles does hit bike frame

Step 4:

That's it. Nice and simple hack.
