Introduction: PC Tower (no Motherboard) 5 Switchable Hard Drives to Single USB

About: Retired, electronic drummer, musician, computer fixer/maker/messer-upper!

Homemade multiple hard drive (each with it's own power switch) USB tower enclosure.
Five hard drives to 1 USB out inside empty PC case with power supply (no motherboard).

Supplies

Empty PC tower
Power supply with 5 SATA power connectors
5 hard drives
5 SATA "data to usb" adapters
6 to 1 USB data hub
2 PC case fans
5 12V rocker switches
10 wire nuts
10 blade type wire connectors to attach to switch posts Soldering iron (optional)
Wire cutters / strippers / crimpers
5 short wires the same gauge as SATA power cables

Step 1: Turned Empty PC Tower Into Switchable 5-bay Drive Enclosure

Couldn't find what I wanted, or instructions to make one, so I went for it.
Picked up an old empty Lenovo case with 6 hard drive slots from junk pile for free, cleaned it and spray painted it blue, added a 400W power supply (with power switch) with 5 SATA plugs. Had to jump PSU green wire with black on the main motherboard connector to power it up without a motherboard. Cut red wire on each SATA connector before the plug and ran it to it's own rocker switch on front panel, with return wire from switch going back to plug. This allows me to turn on and off just one or any combination of drives as needed, and / or turn the power supply off entirely. Added three 500GB, one 1TB, and one 2TB drives. Used 5 SATA "data to USB adapters" to connect to a 6 to 1 USB data hub and ran the single USB out to my desktop. Added intake and exhaust case fans and closed all leaks in case for good airflow. Tucked wires in for neatness and added closed cell foam along edges and bottom of case for sound dampening.
Turned it on, and it worked!! Haven't had one bit of trouble since April of 2021. Runs quiet and cool.
Got 3 sets of these switches:

Doing this myself saved me at least $75.00, based on prices of open-air multi-drive USB hubs.
I can supply more details and pictures on request, if anyone would like to try this and finds it at all helpful.
The unfinished project is out of the way but accessible on far right in the main picture.
