Intro: My Homecinema Screenwall

Hi,

Now i do an own instructable about the screen of my homecinema.
Its pretty cheap and after the final cleaning it looks great.

STEP 1: The Blueprint and Measurement

at first i started my beamer and take a look on the pictruresize i like and do some little marks wit a pen on the wall.
then i do a little sketch about how i would like to have the look of the thing done, and scratch the right measurement on the wall.

STEP 2: Scratching Off the Wallpaper

I asked a friend, he´s a professional Painter, to help me.
We begann scratiching down the Wallpaper and under the wallpaper was older wallpaper and under this was more older wallpaper...

STEP 3: Hack Down the Wall Plaster

Now we Grab the Hammer and chisel and hack down the wall Plaster, thats a very loud and dusty work be carefull and wear a eye shade.

Beware of your neighbours.

STEP 4: Fill Inn the Screen Surface

Now we got an nice frame and the inside screen surface wich we fill in with some putty to get it real smooth after sanding.

STEP 5: Cleaning the Bricks

Now we cleaning the bricks from the remains of the old wall plaster, i chosse a hard wire brush for that work.
Its VERY Dusty, when you do this you should wear a mask.

STEP 6: Cleaning Up

Now thats the hardest part, the fine dust is EVERYWHERE, it lasts houres till we got clean.
It was aufull.

STEP 7: Sealing

at last we bring some sealing to the bricks wich let them look a little more dark and amore red.
This sealing is clear and also prevents the bricks from crumbling.

STEP 8: Painting

The last step is Painting the frame surrounding areas, we just use normal wallwhite.

And painting the screen, we use an special collor for screens wich make better colors in the Projector pictures.


So, thats it, hope you like it.

although I can't do this in my house (it's a 250-year-old fachwerk house), I am well impressed at the results of what you've done there mate. I just had a wee look at your other projects and they have sparked off something in the inventive area of my brain.

I was wondering if you could use a 3m reflective paint to help give an even more brilliance by make the image reflect a higher percentage instead of some of the imaging loss that occurs to the specularity of the white paint on paper etc...Just an idea.. nice job though

ooooh. How about the reflective beads that are used in highway signage? I asked for some at our local Dept of Transportation and they were willing to give me a whole gallon for free. Not sure how you'd get it onto a vertical surface, though. Perhaps pour some into the paint before using it?

I agree with ambientvoid I equally think production maybe more useful than destruction. You could maybe build it so it looks like the screen has been pushed out of the wall push the bricks out of line with it, then just have it screwed in place so if your in somewhere rented or you dont want to wreck your place doing something thats alot of work to put right few screws and your done!

I second that! The whole setup is very nice. The crankshaft speaker stand caught my eye.

I love it but id never be allowed to do this to my rented apartment. As an alternative how about making a wall mounted screen that emulates this look, perhaps a large piece of white photoboard for the central section and the 'brick' frame be made from painted and molded paper machier or similar...?
