Introduction: My Own Version of the Useless Box

For the evening classes about Arduino (CVO Volt - Arduino) I'm following we needed to make a personal projects.I decided to combine 2 techniques being Arduino and laser cutting. I learned to use a laser cutter during another evening class being CVO Volt - 3D printing.

Step 1: Making the Box

For making the box, I used inkscape as software. I made use of the extension "Tabbed Box Maker" to make the initial box. For the hinges of the box I looked how they were done in this video. I used 4mm MDF as material to make the box.Attached to this step are the PDF version of my design for the box.

Step 2: Designing the Arm

For me the hardest part off all was designing the arm to turn of the switch. I made a side view of the box, as to see where the arm needed to come, and which shape would be the best. These parts were cut out off 9mm MDF.

To make it a bit more beautiful we covered both arms with some arms from another teddy bear.

Step 3: Assembling and Configuring / Programing the Arduino

As the last step I needed to assemble everything and program the Arduino. Below you can find an overview of what electronical material I used.

  1. Arduino Nano
  2. Small breadboard
  3. ON/ON Switch
  4. 2 MG996R servo
  5. Breadboard power supply (MB102)

At first I tried using the SG90 as a servo, as this was supplied with beginnerskit I had, but this was not strong enough, so that's why I used the MG996R servo motors.
