NES Controller Speakers

Introduction: NES Controller Speakers

This instructable will show you how to make small portable speakers for you ipod, using a broken cell phone and a NES controller. The speakers get about as loud as a built in ipod touch speaker, so not too loud. could be used as a pillow speaker. incase you're wondering, my ipod is a 1st gen, so it doesnt have built in speakers.

Step 1: Supplies

broken cell phone (i used an enV2)
NES Controller
Dremel (optional)
headphone jack
hot glue

Step 2: Open NES Controller

there are 6 screws in the back. just take them out. this is the optional part. i used a dremel to remove the extra circuit board to make more space, but its not necessary if your speakers are as small as the ones im using. just cut the wires.

Step 3: Take Apart EnV2

find the screws in the top half of the enV. theyre hidden under little rubber plugs on the side with the bigger screen. unscrew them and take off the face, which should reveal the speakers. Take the speakers out. Be careful not to ruin the speakers or wires. you only get about half an inch of wire to work with so no mistakes.

Step 4: Wiring

take the headphone jack and strip the wires. there should be 3 parts, one wire for the left side, one wire for the right side, and a ground wire, which is usually not covered in plastic, or is black.
strip the right and left wires and twist them together.

now take the speakers and strip them if necessary. they should have 2 wires each. take one wire from each, and connect them. i just used foil and hot glue. you can solder it too.

take the 2 remaining speaker wires (one from each) and connect them to the 2 headphone jack wires.

you are done with wiring :D

Step 5: Put It Into the Controller

Drill a few holes in the back for the speakers. i used a ruler for my spacing.

hot glue everything into the back of the controller, making sure everything is flat so it can close

i also glued in the jack so you can't pull it out.

Step 6: Close It Up

screw everything back into place and you are done!

    great ible !
although with mine i didnt use old cell phone speaker but rather a couple of 40mm ones. i need to add and amp but it looks great :)

Why not make it stereo? And the way you twisted the output from the jack can screw up the amp you're hooking it up to....

bro how would you wire stereo ? would you leave out the ground or what thats what im confused about lol

Well, out of the jack there are 3 wires -ground, +left and +right

When wiring put the ground on both spk's - and DON'T twist the other wires (some amps won't mind that but others will just burn out because you are shorting the left and right channel the wrong way) then put the +wire of the left channel (or right) on one spk's + and do the same with the remaining wire.

sorry if i'm explaining it stupidly but i'm half asleep now so.....yeah.... about that...... :D

i used 2 speakers from identical mcdonald's toys, wiring it in stereo. excellent results. also, instead of just a wire out i have a jack so i can wire things directly into it and i have a black male-male cord that i can use to connect it to my phone or whatever. great 'ible!
