Introduction: NWEA MAPS Setting Up Test Sessions
This is a step by step guide for setting up testing sessions in the NWEA system. I made this guide to help fellow teachers easily set up their testing sessions for their classes.
Step 1: Log In
To get started, login to your account on the NWEA website.
Step 2: Manage Test Sessions
This is the home screen. There is so much information available to you from here. We are going to select the “Manage Test Sessions Tab”.
Step 3: Find Students
You will see a “Find Students to Test” button. All students have been uploaded for our district by the Data Administrator. Go ahead and click on the “Find Students” button.
Step 4: Search Criteria
On this page, you will find search criteria. First select the school for which you are testing. Then select the grade and instructor.
Step 5: Student List
Once you click search, you will see a list of available students (there will not be blue boxes on your screen, this is for student privacy). Be sure to check the list for errors, such as, a missing student or a student that is assigned to the wrong class. You can also just pick a certain group of students to take the test. Click add students once you determine the list is correct.
Step 6: Assign Test
You will be taken back to the “Manage Test Sessions” page. From here you will assign the test. As you can see, all the names have a check mark beside them. This is not prepopulated so you will need to check the box next to “Last Name” in order to select all students or you can just click on the students you want to test. Then click “Assign”
Step 7: Choose Test
On this page you will be presented with a box with a drop down menu, simply click the arrow to display the drop down menu. From here you will choose the test you will administer to the students you have selected. Choose the test then click “Assign”.
Step 8: Assign Test to Students
You will have two options for administering the assessments: Test now or Save Session. The testing situation will depend on which option you choose.
Step 9: Test Now
If you choose the test now button, it will take you directly to the the test session page and you can begin testing. As you can see, the session name is computer generated. We will go into more detail about administering the test in the next presentation. For now, we are only setting testing sessions so this option will not be used at this time.
Step 10: Save Session
When you select the “Save Session” button, you will be prompted to name the session. What you name is completely up to you. It does not show up on any reports and is simply a way to organize your test sessions. I like to keep them simple and use a name relating to the class or group testing. This session will be named “k math” because it is a kindergarten class taking the math assessment. For younger students, I like to keep it pretty simple because you will have to log all of them in. After you have chosen your name, click the save and exit button.
Step 11: Edit, Delete, or Test Now
You will return to the Manage testing Sessions page, here you will be able to see all the sessions you have saved. From this page, you can also edit or delete the testing sessions you have saved. You can only have one test session open at a time.
This is the last step in setting up your test sessions.
