Introduction: Neopixel Animated Unicorn Night Light

About: Maker of unique gifts and gadgets. Visit me at cchobbyfun.com

I made a glass unicorn night light powered by a Adafruit Circuit Playground Bluefruit (CPB). Parts list is pretty straight forward:

Adafruit Circuit Playground Bluefruit

Wood for the case

1/4” Clear acryilc 4”x 4”

3D filament to print the mount for the CPB

Screws to mount it to the base

3x AAA battery holder

Step 1: Night Light Base Construction

I created 3”x3”x2” base on a MakerCase site and used it to laser cut the five parts. The parts are glued together using wood glue. There is a hole cut in the top for a clear acrylic insert. I cut the acrylic insert from clear cast acrylic sheet and engraved it on the back for a frosted look. The acrylic insert glues into the top and is where the glass unicorn will rest.

Step 2: Circuit Playground Bluefruit

The Circuit Playground Bluefruit (CPB) is mounted in a 3D printed holder. You can find it here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2322014. The CPB fits inside. I cut two small .5”x.5”x.5” pieces of wood and glued them onto the base. Drill the holes into the wood and use them mount it to the base.

Step 3: Code

The CPB has built in BLE functionality. It also has a smartphone app the Bluefruit LE App (https://learn.adafruit.com/bluefruit-le-connect). The app has built in programmable buttons that can used to control the Neopixels on the CPB. The code lets you choose from seven different animations. You can press the up arrow in the app to change the color most of the animations except for the rainbow animations. the ode for can be downloaded here https://cchobbyfun.com/blogs/news/neopixel-lighted...

The code is easy to install on the CPB. You only need to drag and drop it onto the CPB. You can find setup instructions for the CPB here https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-circuit-playgr...
