Nice Looking, Cheap LED Shop Flashlight

Well, if any of you are like me, most LED lights are just too expensive. I wanted a cheap LED light that looked nice. So, I bought a $1 RCA flashlight from Food City, and had the head of a broken LED light. So, I decided to put the two together. Please be kind since this is my first instructable. Hope you like it.

Step 1: What You Need.

Ok. Basically, you need 10 things.

1 flashlight and batteries
3 LED's
5 pieces of wire about 1 1/4 long (mine aren't cut in the pic)
soldering iron and wire
Needle nose pliers

Step 2:

Ok. Take apart your flashlight. Mine was 5 pieces disassembled. After you do that, grab your LED's. Bend the negative like in the picture. Tin the electrodes for later, and while you're at it, tin the five wire's too.

Step 3:

Next, go ahead and solder a wire to the cluster of anodes, and a wire to each of the cathodes. Then solder the wires from the cathodes together and solder the last wire to it and tape it up. Before you go any further, check and see if your LED's will fit into your reflector. I had to open mine up a little with my soldering iron.

Step 4:

On mine, it had a cople spots I could slide the wires through so I could solder them in place. I know this is probably very obvious, but positive-positive, and negative-negative. On this one, the large metal ring is negative, and the small round terminal in the center is positive. Anyway, solder your wires to their respective places and you are done! Now, just put everything back together and you are ready to go.

Step 5:

I bought two of these RCA lights to show you the original to what I built. Like I said in the title, its really a shop light. You're better off leaving it alone if you need it for more than five or ten feet. I use mine for digging around in my garage. Next, I'm gonna try turning a 4-D Mag-Light into an 8 LED light.
