No-Sew T.A.R.D.I.S. Case for Handheld Devices!

I have loved the show Dr. Who all my life, so when figuring out what to make as a case for my new Kindle Fire, this lovely idea popped into my head first and I decided to share it with my fellow Whovians! Now I can tote around my own little T.A.R.D.I.S. and show some Dr. Who pride! It seems fitting that I make it a T.A.R.D.I.S. since it is the Doctor's means of traveling and going on adventures and my Kindle Fire takes me on adventures with each new book I read! Sometimes even in time and space!
Hopefully you enjoy this just as much as I do!

Step 1: Supplies!

You'll Need:
3 Dark Blue Sheets of Felt
1 White Sheet of Felt
1 Black Sheet of Felt
1 Clear Button/Jewel
White Fabric Paint
Sharpie
Fabric Glue
Scissors
The device you wish to make the case for.

Yes, there are four sheets of blue shown in the picture. I had one just in case I needed extra felt, but I didn't! 3 ended up being plenty! Then again, I suppose it does depend on the device you are making this for.

Step 2: Measurments!

Measure your device!
I made my case for my Kindle Fire (With a cover on it) so my measurements were roughly 5x7.5 Inches.

Step 3: Cutting the Blue Felt Pt. 1

Add 1-1.5 Inches to each measurement so the device has some room to fit! Then cut out two rectangles from two of your sheets of blue felt.
You will need 2 regular rectangle sheets total!

Note: If the device you are making this for is thin than you can stick to the 1 inch extra, the thicker the device is, the more slack you'll need for the case to stretch out to fit it.
For my Kindle Fire, I used just the 1 inch extra measurement and it fits just lovely.

Step 4: Cutting the Blue Felt Pt. 2

For the third sheet of blue felt, we will need to cut out a rectangle sheet similar to the other too, but this one will have an added peaked or triangle shaped top to it. It will be longer than the other two because of this.
I made my peak about 2 inches tall.
If this is confusing, refer to my picture I have posted of this 3rd cut next to the regular rectangle.

When all is said and done you should have 2 rectangles and 1 peaked rectangle from your 3 blue felt sheets.

Step 5: Painting the Sign!

Before you really get started, I suggest painting the sign so that it has plenty of time to dry while you assemble the rest of the T.A.R.D.I.S. Case. The size of the sign will of course change depending on what size case you are making. For my Kindle Fire measurements I used a 1/2 inch x 4 inch black piece of felt.

Then you use the white fabric paint to apply the lettering "Police Public Call Box" or just "Police Box" for short if you don't have the space.

Step 6: Gluing the Base of the Case!

Apply glue to the bottom, and two side edges of one of your rectangular blue pieces and glue it to the peaked rectangular blue piece. Be sure not to apply glue to either top edge as that will be the opening of your case.

Step 7: Drawing the Panels.

Take your other plain rectangular blue piece of felt, your measuring tape, and a sharpie and sketch out 2 rows of 4 evenly spaced squares. These will become the T.A.R.D.I.S.'s paneling and window detailing.

For the case that I made, I spaced the squares exactly 1 inch from the sides and 1/2 inch from the bottom. The squares themselves measured 1.5 x 1.5 inches and they were spaced roughly 1/2 inch apart from each other.

Step 8: Cutting Out the Panels.

After drawing out each panel, fold your felt one side at a time so that the square panels are in half. Use your scissors to cut a slit in each square to make it easier to fit your scissors in. After you have done that, cut out each square.

Save 1-2 Squares for later.

Step 9: Making the Windows.

At the top of the T.A.R.D.I.S. there are two windows on each side. To make these, use your white felt to cut out a small rectangle that will fit behind them nicely, without showing through to any of the other panels.

Step 10:

Glue this small white rectangle on the back of the blue felt piece behind the windows.

Step 11: Making the Window Panes.

Take one of your saved blue squares and cut out 6 thin strips. If you can't get them all out of one square then use more as needed. I was able to get all 6 strips out of one blue square for mine.

Step 12:

Each window is 2 panes tall by 3 panes wide. So each window needs 3 strips to make them.
Use your glue to make lines and glue these strips down as shown in my pictures.

Step 13: Applying the Panels.

With the windows finished, your paneling detail piece is complete and ready to be glued on the top side of your case.
The peaked rectangle piece is the front/top of your case. So glue it to that.

Step 14:

From some of your scrap blue felt, you are going to need to cut out a thin strip to glue onto the back of the case. This will be the strip of felt that the button tucks under to close the case. Glue this strip pretty close to the top, about 1-1.5 inches down so that the button will be able to reach it.

Step 15: Adding the Light!

At the top of the T.A.R.D.I.S. is a sort of lamp or light. I thought it would be cute to incorporate that in this case as a method to close it. So I picked a sparkly, clear button so that it sort of resembled the light and glued it to the top of the peak/triangle.
In the last picture, you can see how it works to close the case with it.

Step 16: Finishing Touches!

By now, hopefully, your police box sign should be dry and ready to place on the case. If not, then you'll just have to wait a bit!
Glue it at the top of the case above the windows.
