Introduction: Omni Directional Wind Generator
Most Wind Generators have a tail fin to change its direction to face the direction of the wind that causes the loss of some energy that is generated.
I faced this problem when i was building one so i thought why not make windmill that can reduce this loss. so I came up with this design the funnel on top of this structure took wind from all direction and forced it on the fan thus keeping it rotating in one direction.
So without further delay lets begin...
Step 1: What You Need
Building Materials :
Cardboard/Wood, Glue, small balls (for bearings), 12V Generator, Cardboard/wood tube, wires, led to show output.
Tools :
Scissors, Pliers, Soldering Gun, Geometry Set (to cut shapes)
Step 2: The Funnel
The Funnel is the top most part of this generator that helps in generating electricity by pushing the wind into the fan.
The Funnel consists of three parts :
1. The Top Funnel its shape pushes the wind downwards towards the fan.
2. The Fins don't let the air to flow around the funnel.
3. The Bottom funnel concentrates the wind into the fan.
My Advice : Make them separately and then use the top funnel as a base for the fins and the fins as as base for bottom funnel.
Step 3: The Generator
The Generator is the main component as it generates electricity. Make sure that it rotates easily.
Use two bottle cap and stick their open bases on each other to form a cylindrical shape and make a hole in center of one of them (this will be where the axle of the generator be attached)
Solder the wires to the contacts on the generator to draw electricity from it.
Step 4: The Propeller
The Propeller is of a different kind as wind needs to blown from either its top or side. I made it this way since i required cw rotation, if you require ccw rotation flip the image.
Stick the Cylinder made from the bottle caps earlier to the Propeller this will help in joining it with the generator shaft.
Step 5: The Housing
The housing is to protect the propeller from stray winds and weather it consists of 4 parts
1. The Funnel
2. The Propeller housing
3. The Generator Housing
4. The Base
Step 6: Assembly
Assembling from bottom up :
1. Base
2. The Generator with the housing
3. The Propeller with the housing
4. Connecting the propeller with the generator via the hole in the bottle cap
5. Connect the LED.
Step 7: You Are Done
You are finished building you own wind generator that will generate energy no which direction the wind is...
Just Place it in a windy place
