Introduction: One Length Trim

I'm showing how to do a simple one-length trim on long-length hair. Super easy and quick. Just be careful with the shears!!

Supplies

Shears (can be bought at any beauty supply store)

Step 1: Knowing How to Use the Shears

Before you begin, you must know how to use the shears safely. You need to know how to hold the shears and comb and safely hold the shear when you're not using it. Practice opening and closing the shears and holding it comfortably in your hands. The first photo is of how you hold the shears while cutting. The next two are how to safely palm. This is how you should hold the shears when you are not cutting but still holding them. It is crucial that you safely palm the shears, so you do not injury yourself or others.

Step 2: Comb the Hair

Firstly. Comb out the hair. Before cutting, it is important to ensure the hair is soft with no knots. Otherwise, some sections could be uneven

Step 3: Section the Hair

For this step, Use the 4-section part. For a 4-section part, all you have to do is part straight down the middle of the head, then part again at the apex of the head to behind the ear. It is much easier to complete the trim with smaller controlled sections.

Step 4: Drop One Section

Start with the bottom sections first, dropping one at a time.

Step 5: Wet the Section

Use the spray bottle to wet the dropped section thoroughly. It's easier to cut the hair when it is wet.

Step 6: Important!!!

Before you cut, it is essential to remember to hold the hair tight and taut against your client's back so that the cut is all even. Otherwise, your sections will be uneven. It is also important to remember that when you cut, do not cut past your second knuckle. Otherwise, you may cut yourself.

Step 7: Make Guideline

Start the trim by making a guideline, and this guideline will help you see where to cut to make it even. The guideline is to show the length you're cutting too. I made my guideline on the inner sides of the section I just dropped so I can work side to side.

Step 8: Cut Hair to the Left/right to the Guidline

Combining the next section of hair in with the guideline you just cut, you can use the guideline to make the next cut. Because of the guideline, you should be able to see where to cut. Cut the whole section evenly by combining smaller units with the guideline. The guideline will also move as you do the haircut.

Step 9: Drop the Next Back Section and Repeat

Once you complete the first section, you can drop the next back section and repeat the steps. Then once you complete the second back section, you are done with the back and can move on to the front sections.

Step 10: Drop One of the Front Sections

Drop one of the front sections and repeat the steps to wetting the hair. Once the hair is wet, you can comb the front section with the back, and you will be able to see the guideline and cut as before.

Step 11: Drop It All and Make Sure Its Even

Drop all of the remaining sections and do the cut once again. Once done, comb the hair straight down and see if any spots are uneven. If so, do your best to even it out.

Step 12: Done!!

After you complete all sections, the trim is complete. You can continue the trim with a bit of face-framing, but that is for another time!

Step 13: Extra

Once you finish you can blow dry and style to hair.
