Introduction: Onion Strings
I absolutely love me some onion strings and while some of my favorite restaurants have them on their menu, I have found it is WAAAAY cheaper to make a pile of them at home.
Step 1: Ingredients
Ingredients
2 Onions, 2 cups Buttermilk, 2 cups Flour, 1 tsp Season Salt, course ground pepper, 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper, and Canola Oil
If you don't have buttermilk, don't panic, do not go out of your way to buy it. You can simply make your own buttermilk by adding a teaspoon of lemon juice to your milk. Voila you have buttermilk!

Step 2: Preparations
- First thinly slice up those onions, I mean thin. I use a mandolin on the thinnest setting. Now get a large dish and place onions in there and then pour your buttermilk over the top pressing down on the onions making sure they are all getting coated. Sprinkle a little of that Johnny's season salt in your milk too.
- Next grab a bowl and pour in your flour, season salt, grind in some pepper, cayenne pepper and mix it up
- Start heating up that oil
Step 3: Fry Baby Fry
With some tongs grab some onions out of the buttermilk and place in the flour, coating all sides. Drop into oil and watch the beautifulness unfold. When they are golden brown retrieve out of the oil and place on a paper towel. Repeat! Taste and if desired you may need to add salt.
As far as dipping sauces, well the sky is the limit!
