Introduction: Origami Night Light
Supplies
A pair of siccors
Fairy lights.
30 translucent square stiff sheets of origami paper almost like butter paper but stronger
A ruler/scale
Bone folder(optional)
Glue(optional)
Step 1: Making a Unit
Each unit slots and locks into place with other units.
Step 2: Floding the Unit.
Step 1 : First fold the square paper in half horizontally and unfold.
Step 2 : fold one corner of the paper to the centre along the line you folded in step one.
Step 3 : fold the corner of the square opposite to the corner you folded in step 2 , along the horizontal crease you made in step 1 in the same way to the centre.
Step 4 : flip the paper over so that the folded corners are underneath .
Step 5 : fold the folded horizontal edge of the corner you folded in step 2 , along the crease line you folded in step 1 . The crease you make must be such that , the beginning of your crease starts from the point the folded edge of the corner underneath.
Step 6 : turn the paper 180 degrees to the right.
Step 7 : fold the folded edge of the corner underneath , along the crease line you folded in step one the same way you folded in step 5.
Step 8 : flip the paper over.
Step 9 : fold the flap originating underneath the first layer of paper to form a crease that touches the upper ending wedge like shapes' ending point and the lower fat beginning point of the lower flap.
Step 10: rotate the paper 180 degrees to the right.
Step 11 : fold the flap originating underneath the exact same way you folded the flap in step 9.
Step 12 : flip the paper over.
Step 13 : fold the remaining two flaps over and along the edges over the two flaps.
Step 14 : flip the paper over.
Step 15 : fold the diamond like shape such that the two wedge like ending points meet and line up. Then crease.
Right below I have attached sequential step videos that will help a beginner to fold the base unit. The paper used in the video has been pre-creased, (I had already folded the base unit for an instructive video but the editing did not go well so this was actually a redo) however the steps are essentially the same for a new sheet of paper.
Step 3: Assembling the Model
By interlocking three units to form a single pyramid like point.make 10 of these .
Connect the 10 points with each other in the same way you connected the units. Insert the fairy lights and you have finished the night light.
Step 4: Appreciate
If you have reached this step take a moment to congratulate yourself and also take in the beauty of what you just created. I personally really like this project because if you choose fairy lights powerful enough you can essentially use the night light as a beautiful reading lamp too.
