Introduction: ELECTRICITY BY WALKING

About: ignite.innovate.ideas

Hy everyone this is my first Instructable. In this Instructable i will show you how to produce electricity by walking :-)
using a very simple method .

Step 1: Skills Required

  1. Basic electronic
  2. How to solder
  3. How to use multimeter

Step 2: Materials Required

  • Piezo element (i recommend to buy this from online store because they are very cheap on online store)
( don't worry if you can get those elements .just buy buzzers as in the photo and remove its case and you can see the elements there)
  • Copper wire
  • Diode 1N4148
  • Plywood or cardboard

    TOOLS REQUIRED
  • Plier
  • Soldering iron

Step 3: Removing the Plastic Case

Use a plier to open the plastic case
dont use any sharp pointed object to remove it
WARNING: while removing the case don't bent the piezo element

Step 4: What Is a Piezoelectricity ?

Piezoelectricity, also called the piezoelectric effect, is the ability of certain materials to generate an AC (alternating current) voltage when subjected to mechanical stress or vibration, or to vibrate when subjected to an AC voltage, or both. The most common piezoelectric material is quartz. Certain ceramics, Rochelle salts, and various other solids also exhibit this effect.

Step 5: Making the Base

I used a plywood for making the base. I used wood cutter for making a long piece of plywood
the long piece if used for raising the height of the platform for getting more pressure (This part is optional if you want you can skip it) stick all the long piece as shown in photos
Now cut out carboard a little bit larger than the element and leave a "U" at the pace of soldering .The carboard is used to prevent damage to the element and the "U" gap is to prevent damage to the soldring on the element and to to make the element stick on the board properly

Step 6: Connecting the Diode

Join the two wires coming from the crystal together and connect it to the anode(+) of the diode and the cathode(-) to the main wire (red). Repeat this step for all the elements
Use a tape to hold the wires to board or else it make lots of confusions later

Step 7: Making the Top Layer

Keep a plastic thermocol sheet over the board to prevent damage to the elements while walking over it
Cover all elements with a plywood as the size of the base

Connect a multimeter at the end of two main wires and walk over it
watch the reading

Step 8: Videos and Photos

Step 9: Troubleshootings

  • Recheck whether all the diode are connected properly
  • Check all the crystals
  • Check whether anywhere the two main wires are coming in contact with each othe
  • The board which you are using as base should not contain any moisture
