Introduction: PVC Inner Tube Chair

So my family and I ride bike a ton, and we are constantly having to replace out inner tubes, but for some reason we keep them. I decided to make a chair with the inner tubes, because its different. This project is a little dangerous and it may be alittle difficult, but if your willing to try something new, just follow my instructions.

I will be posting my variations on my ible shortly.

The inspiration for my project is:

Step 1: Materials

-10 ft of 3/4" PVC tubing
-(2)-3/4" to 1/2" PVC Female Adaptor
-(2)-3/4" to 1/2" PVC Male Adaptor
-(1)-3/4" PVC T-joint
-(2)- Bicycle Tires(diameter=
-Old Bike Inner Tubes
-(4) 1" Pipe Clamp
-Old Belts
-Bolts/nuts

Tools:
-PVC Cement and Primer
-Tape Measure
-Hack Saw
-Fire
-Black Spray Paint
-Gloves
-Safety Goggles

Step 2: Cut

Take the 10 foot PVC tube and cut (2) 4 foot pieces of the tubing, then cut 2 more pieces that are 7.75".

Mark the center of both of the 4 foot tubes for the following step.

Step 3: Forming the PVC

Okay so the first step is to get a nice hot fire going. As your fire is heating up, take the rim of the tire out of the wheel.

Now WITH GLOVES ON, place the tube above the fire, not too close and keep it moving so it doesnt burn. This should be a slow process, dont rush it. when you think its time to shape the tube wrap it wround the wheel (like in the pictures). You need to hold it in place for a little bit, it doesnt take too long.

When you feel that the formed tube is hard again, you may need to reheat it if there are any oddities. Just follow the same process, for the reheat and for the next tube.

Step 4: Connect

Now that you have both of your tubes formed, its time to connect them. First screw the male and female adaptors together, then using the PVC primer and cement connect the tubes together as showen in the first picture.

Then using the two 6.75" pieces that were cut before, connect a T-Joint to both of the pieces. then connect the new piece to the two remaining spots showen in the last picture.

Step 5: Paint

Since I live in a forest, I went into the woods and found some sticks that are Y-shaped to hold the partial chair above the ground. Then just spray painted the PVC.

Step 6: Add the Wheels

Now, its on to the wheels.

First take the tire part and the inner tube out (dont cut this one), undo 2-3 of the spokes and drill 2 holes that line up with the holes in the pipe clamp. Screw the clamp on the interior sde of the rim. Then put the inner tube and tire back on the wheel.

Repeat this for the other wheel.

On the chair you have to attach the 2 remaining pipe clamps using bolts, do this in the same way as previously stated. Then take a 2 foot piece of PVC (axel) and slide it through all 4 of the pipe clamps. I used duct tape to secure them to the axel, but you can use whatever you want.

Step 7: Inner Tube/Chair Support

This is where things get a tad tricky.

Take your inner tubes and cut the valve out of them, then cut them down the middle so it is flattened.

Next, you must wrap one of the tubes around itself so it is anchored then wrap it around the other pvc bar and continue, when one tube gets to the end just start with another one. When you think your done with one half of the chair, take an old belt and just tighten it around the loose end.

Then repeat this for the other half of the chair.

Step 8: The "Kick" Stand

Since we added the T-joint to the support beam, we just need to cut a piece that will be the "kick" stand so when your sitting you dont flip backward.

You may want to add a second "kick" stand for better stability.
