Pallet Snowman

In this Instructable, I will show you how to build a pallet Snowman.

You will need:

2 Pallets

Jigsaw

Air Nailer or Hammer

Nails or Screws

A couple of small tree branches

Outdoor Paint ( White and Black)

Paintbrushes

Cardboard ( a piece 2" Wide x 18" Long

Handsaw or Bandsaw

Titebond Outdoor Wood Glue

Step 1: Pallet Assembly

You will need 2 pallets or 1 solid pallet and enough pallet slats to fill in between like shown in the pictures.

With the extra slats, lay them in between the others until they are are filled up. (picture 3)

Then nail those slats to the pallet, only nail the center sections.(picture 4 and 5)

Step 2: Make a Cardboard Gauge

Find a cardboard box and cut a piece 2" wide x 18" long. Put a nail thru it at 1" from the top.

Then measure from that nail down to 5 1/2", 9 1/2" and 15 1/2" . Make a hole in those spots with a nail.

Now we have a gauge to mark the cutouts for the Snowman

Step 3: Snowman Head

Measure form the top of the pallet, 5 1/2" down and make a mark. (Try to stay in the center of the pallet)

Now place the cardboard gauge with the nail at the 1" mark at the 5 1/2" location. Slightly hammer the nail into the pallet as shown in the pictures. (Do not nail to deep, as we will have to pull the nail back out)

Now place your marker in the hole on the gauge at the 5 1/2" mark. Rotate the gauge with the marker touching the pallet, making a complete circle as shown in the pictures.

Note you may have to adjust your gauge according to your slats width

Step 4: Snowman Belly

Measure form the top of the pallet, 18 1/4" down and make a mark. (Try to stay in the center of the pallet)

Now place the cardboard gauge with the nail at the 1" mark at the 18 1/4" location. Slightly hammer the nail into the pallet as shown in the pictures. (Do not nail to deep, as we will have to pull the nail back out)

Now place your marker in the hole on the gauge at the 9 1/2" mark. Rotate the gauge with the marker touching the pallet, making a partial circle as shown in the pictures.

Note you may have to adjust your gauge according to your slats width

Step 5: Snowman Bottom

Measure form the top of the pallet, 36 3/4" down and make a mark. (Try to stay in the center of the pallet)

Now place the cardboard gauge with the nail at the 1" mark at the 36 3/4" location. Slightly hammer the nail into the pallet as shown in the pictures. (Do not nail to deep, as we will have to pull the nail back out)

Now place your marker in the hole on the gauge at the 15 1/2" mark. Rotate the gauge with the marker touching the pallet, making a partial circle as shown in the pictures.

Note you may have to adjust your gauge according to your slats width

Step 6: Jigsaw Time

Now take your Jigsaw and cutout the lines that we made.

After all of those marks are cut, flip the pallet over and cut the back slats close as you can to the 2/4's (as shown in the pictures)

Step 7: Paint Snowman

Now it's time to paint the pallet, I used Krylon White Latex Enamel.

Note before painting, slightly go over the pallet with a piece of sandpaper, especially over the jigsaw areas

Step 8: Buttons

I found a old tree branch in the yard about 2" round. Cut 3 pieces roughly 3/4" thick.

Nail those piece's to the belly section of the Snowman. ( I used a air nailer, but you can use regular nails and hammer)

Note you could substitute the branch buttons with something else, I didn't have anything on hand

Step 9: Eyes and Mouth

I found another old tree branch in the yard, about 1" diameter. I cut several pieces about 1/2" thick to use for the eyes and mouth. Attach these with Air Stapler.

It would probably be a good idea to use some outdoor glue underneath each piece before nailing

Note you could substitute the branch eyes and mouth with something else, I didn't have anything on hand

Step 10: Snowman Nose

I used the same 1" diameter tree branch for the nose. I cut a piece about 3" long, drilled a hole with a 1" spade bit as shown about 1/2" deep into the pallet. Put some glue into the hole and insert the piece.

Wipe off excess glue before it dries.

Note you could substitute the branch Nose with something else, I didn't have anything on hand

Step 11: Paint Nose, Eyes, Mouth and Buttons

Now it's time to paint the wood branch pieces that we cut for the Nose, eyes, mouth and buttons

Note you may have to add a second coat of paint

Step 12: Bottom Brace

Now I came up with a idea of cutting a couple of scrap pallet pieces at a angle as shown in the picture. Then attached them with screws to the bottom back side of the pallet as shown in the pictures

Note I use this because I was going to stick it into the ground, You may have to alter the bottom for your needs

Step 13: Enjoy Your Snowman
