Introduction: Palomar Knot

Hi, my name is Darrin I’m demonstrating how to tie a Palomar knot for fishing. Were going to need some fishing line and a hook this is pretty cheap under 10 dollars. This knot is the best fishing knot there is there is no way the knot can get pulled out. I’ve used this same knot since I started fishing and not ever had a problem with the quality of the knot.

Supplies

need a fishing lure and some fishing line any kind will work.

Step 1:

The first step is to grab the end of the line and fold it over depending on the lure size, you’ll need to have more or less line folded over like the shape of a really tight U. After that you’re going to want to fit the line through the eye of the lure still maintain the U shape, for small hook eyes pass the end of the line through the eye then back through the eye

Step 2:

The second step is once you’ve got the line through the eye take the line make an overhand knot with the loop in order to do that take the loop in your right hand and the 2 peices of line in your left hand . Be careful not to kink the line in the bend, this can lead to a weakening of the knot.

Step 3:

For the third step take the smaller loop should be on the left side if your right handed and wrap it around the bigger loop it should look similar to what was there before. Now with the smaller loop you’re going to want to pull the line on the loop out just to have some room depending on the lure bigger loop or smaller. Now take the lure and put it through the bigger loop that was just created and put the lure through that loop.

Step 4:

For the fourth step ensure B sure to pass the hook or lure through the loop that all parts of the knot cinch up together. Some versions of this knot show the loop part of the knot at the bottom of the hook or lure's eye, the knot may fail if tied this way. The knot doubles the line around the areas that come under the most strain giving it much added strength.

Step 5:

For the final step once the lure has come through the loop pull both the end piece of line and the main piece coming from the rod or line holder. Moisten the line to prevent friction then pull the line tight if done right there should be a little pop or see it go into place, its correct for sure than if that happens trim your tag ends as necessary for a sharp but strong fishing knot it should look like 2 doughnuts on top of each other with 2 pieces of line coming out of the middle.
