Introduction: Paper Airplane Launcher I
Fly your paper airplanes to new heights with this paper airplane launcher!
Supplies
- wood platform measuring approximately 3’x2’
- holes pre-drilled in platform (3" down from top of board, 3" in from the edge of the board, 16.5” apart)
- two balsa wood boards that match the length of the platform you’ll use
- large rubber band
- hot glue gun
- two angled balsa wood boards (29.5" long)
- twelve popsicle sticks
Step 1: Attach Balsa Wood to Platform
Glue the two uncut pieces of balsa on the bottom and along the sides so that the inner top corner can be free to bend.
Step 2: Glue Angled Balsa
- Glue angled pieces to the middle of the platform so the pointed end is with the glued down side
- Glue the wide end of the angled balsa to the inside of the board to make a ramp
Step 3: Attach Popsicle Sticks
Glue the popsicle sticks along the edge of the ramp and to the front so the rubber band can catch.
Step 4: Attach Rubber Band
Tie a rubber band onto the platform in the two holes at the end of the ramp.
Step 5: Launch
To launch an airplane, pull the rubber band back and latch it to the two popsicle sticks,
Then pull the two sides of the rubber band into the inside of the ramp, then slide an airplane (works better if it has a shorter base and shorter wings) into the ramp about half a popsicle stick before the end, pull back the rubber band enough for it to unlatch from the popsicle stick, then release and watch your airplane fly.
P.S. The tighter the rubber band, the faster the plane will fly!
