Paper Mache Wall Sculpture. ONCILLA (Leopardus Tigrinus)

The night comes above the "Paramo de Oceta" where begins his adventure a tiny but agile feline with his striped skin camuflaged into the jungle and flora so he can catch his prey.

His shelter and protection are the caves and holes in the trees.

Lovely creations inspired in the tiny beings that habitates wonderful colombian andes lands.

This a humble homage to this wonderful Mountains guardians.

We have to take care of them cause in some way they take care of our land.

ESCULTURA DE PARED ESCULPIDA EN MASILLA DE PAPEL ONCILLA (Leopardus Tigrinus)

Llegada la noche en el páramo de Ocetá emprende su aventura un pequeño felino muy ágil y trepador que con su piel rayada se camufla entre la selva o flora para así atrapar sus presas. Su resguardo y protección son las cuevas o huecos de los árboles.

Creaciones inspiradas en los seres que habitan hermosos territorios colombianos. Cuidarlos y permitir su permanencia es nuestra responsabilidad.

Supplies

o Hoe / Arcilla (Azadón, Balde)

o Knife / Cuchillo o Papel para reutilizar rasgado en pequeñas tiras

o Homemade glue colaEngrudo(pegamento):

Stove Estufa,

Pot Olla,

2 spoons flavour 2 cucharadas de Harina de trigo,

! litter of water 1 litro de Agua,

Glue colbón)

Bowl o Recipiente.

Cow /horse hairsPelos de cola de vaca

o Lija

o Acrílicos

o Pinceles

Step 1: Clay Preparation - Preparación De La Greda.

Deep in the beautiful Colombian mountains. With the help of a mattock it can be collected the clay in a bag. Once we get home we smash the clay in a large plastic bowl in order to reduce the chunks to a fine powder.

Then we seive the powder to take appart little stones and grass.The powder clay its mixed with a drip of water making the consistent and maleable dough

En lo profundo de las hermosas montañas boyacenses. Con la ayuda del azadón se recolecta la greda en un recipiente. Se lleva a casa y se procede a dejarla bien fina con la ayuda de una maseta. Se cierne en un costal de fique para aislar pequeñas piedras, palos u otros elementos gruesos que se encuentren en la greda. La greda cernida se mezcla con un poco de agua, se amasa hasta lograr una mezcla consistente y fácil de manejar.

Step 2: Clay Mold - Molde De La Oncilla En Greda

Once the clay is maleable we have to start to mold it in the shape of the Oncilla head with help of the knife. When the shape is smooth finished we wet the whole head.

Then we let it dry for 2 days.

Con las manos se esculpe la greda. Se perfila y hacen acabados con el cuchillo.

Una vez está bien liso y listo se humedece con un poco de agua.

Step 3: Cooking the Glue / Cola - Preparación Del Engrudo (pegamento)

The flour its disolved in the water and cooked stiring constantly in order to dont let dry the glue. Once is sticky we take out of the fire, let it cold and now its ready to use the glue

Se disuelve la harina en el agua y se pone a fuego medio. Se rebulle constantemente para que la mezcla no se pegue a la olla, una vez esté espeso se retira del fuego. Se deja enfriar un poco. Y así queda listo este pegamento al cual llamamos engrudo.

Step 4: Paper Dough - Preparación De La Masilla De Papel.

We can use paper or cardboard ripped in small pieces and soaked in water for about 5 hours. with this paper we are going to make the paper dough that will be molded with the shape of the oncilla's head

You have to add two full spoons of cola or glue getting a consistent dough.

El papel que se dejó en agua se tritura con las manos.

Se toma una pequeña cantidad del papel triturado y escurrido.

En el recipiente se mezcla con dos cucharadas de engrudo y unas gotas de colbón hasta obtener una mezcla consistente. Así obtenemos la masilla de papel.

Step 5: Sculpting the Head - Acabados Y Retoques En Masilla De Papel

The little thin paper stripes get wet with the homemade glue and we start to stick around the head, We have to make sure of make a strong base for the head so were gonna need more than 6 layers of paper. The paper you dont need let it soak in water during 6 hours.

Over this head shape you start to mold with the dough and sculpt all the details of the mask. We let it dry for about 2 or three days.

Las pequeñas tiras de papel se humedecen con el engrudo y se van pegando una a una sobre el molde de greda. Se colocan de cinco a seis capas de papel. Se deja secar un poco. El papel no utilizado en este proceso se deja en un balde con agua durante 6 horas aproximadamente.

Sobre el molde base de papel, se esculpen con la masilla de papel y perfilan los rasgos definitivos de nuestra máscara. Se deja secar a temperatura ambiente durante unos dos a tres días.

Step 6: Unmolding - Desmolde

Once is dry the paper we procede to unmold the whole thing.

With the help of the knife we break the clay to getting out the paper head. Then we start to smooth the surface with sand paper, carve textures and refine shapes.

Then we perfore tiny holes with a needle and place the whiskers of our friend, thats when we use the Horse tail hairs.

Una vez seco todo el papel se procede a realizar el desmolde.

Con la ayuda del cuchillo se rompe la greda para retirarla del molde base del papel. Se pule el contorno. Se realizan acabados. Con la ayuda de una aguja de perfora la parte superior del labio y se colocan los pelos de cola de vaca (bigotes).

Step 7: Painting - Pintura

Now that the detailing process is ready its time to paint the head giving life to our Oncilla. We can give reliefe and volume. Its the moment when light, contrast and shadows show their magic. We use acrylic paints and paintbrushes. Finnally we seal with clear varnish.

Una vez desmoldada y lista la máscara, se procede a darle vida y realce a volúmenes y texturas del papel. Es el momento de la luz, el contraste y las sombras que se posibilitan con los pinceles y pinturas acrílicas. De este modo queda lista la Oncilla para embellecer y dar vida al lugar indicado.

Step 8: Collage

With this same technique we are able to do infinite projects. We´ve made dozens of Mountain friends like deers, Foxes, Bears,Male and female Oncillas.
