Introduction: Papier Maché Kingfisher

I'm going to show you how i make my papier maché birds.

For this instructable i chose to make a kingfisher, but of course you can choose any type of bird you like.

Let's start...

Supplies

Newspaper, Wallpaper Paste, Tape, Paint & Brushes, Scissors/Cutting knife, Piece of rope

Step 1: Documentation/Supplies

First look for some good pictures of the bird you want to make.

Step 2: Making the Shape

Get your newspaper and tape to start making the bird's body.

Make a large and smaller wad of paper and tape these together.

Draw his beak and cut out. Tape it to his head.

Meanwhile look good at the pictures of your bird so you can create the right shape.

Step 3: Make the Wings and Tail

Try to draw a good shape of his wings on a piece of cardboard.

Cut out and tape them onto his body.

Draw his tail and do the same.

Now you have your basic form.

Step 4: Attaching the Rope / Start to Glue

Make a little hole in his back and put a piece of rope in. Use tape to attach.

Make your wallpaper glue ready and tear your newspaper.

Cover your bird in newspaper.

Don't use too much glue (not too little either). Make sure the bird is well covered and not dripping with glue.

Step 5: Let Dry

Once it's fully covered with some layer of newspaper hang it and let dry.

Normally it should be dry in a couple of hours.

Step 6: Paint It White

Once your bird is dry you can start to paint.

Let it dry again. I used acrylic paint, normally this won't take too long to dry.

Step 7: Final Painting

Now, for the most fun part, start to paint!

I tried to match the original colours of a kingfischer, but of course you can experiment.

Use different kinds of paint, leave it white, add some accents, as you like!

Step 8: Final Result

Enjoy your result!

I made some pictures outside but better not to leave your bird hang in the rain ;)

Step 9:
