Introduction: Papperlapapp... a Raspberry Pi Based Music Player

PAPPERLAPAPP is a rude German term to interrupt somebody and tell him he is talking nonsense.

Pappe is the German term for cardboard.

During a discussion in a FB group about "the right wood for steampunk" this word comes in my mind. ;-)

And like a song I have had this word in mind the whole day: "Papperlapapp" this brought me to "Pappe" >> cardboard. After a while I found some cardboard tubes and the story began.

Step 1: Building the Case

The case was build from 3 cardboard tubes.

For the front end and caps I used pressed cardboard.

The tubes where glued together like the picture above.

After this the holes for meter and speakers where drilled.

Step 2: Painting

Painting cardboard is not such easy. I used water based stain and painted it in 4 layers. I used the oven at 60 degrees Celsius to dry it between the layers. (Don´t tell my wife) ;-)

After this I used painted 4 layers of wax stain and after everything was dried 3 layers of shellac.

Step 3: Mounting Everythin Together

I used an USB extension to bring one USB - port outside and hold the RasPi.

Step 4: The Software and the Meter

I decided to use Volumi-

Volumio comes with a lot of plugins and is my favorite player.

To monitor that the player was correctly shut down I connect the meter to the Tx pin of the RasPi. These pin will be high during normal operation and becomes low if the shutdown process is finished.
