Introduction: Password Protect Your Important Files, Folders & Drives

We all store our very important and confidential data in our computers and laptops. However, this stored information is quite vulnerable these days because of the rising incidents of data theft and privacy invasion. Therefore, the purpose of this instructable is to provide a step by step guide on how to password protect your sensitive files, folders and drives with reliable and free encryption software Data Protecto.

What will you need…

· A system running with Windows, XP, or Vista

· Files and folders you need to protect (duh)

· And a copy of Data Protecto.

Step 1: Download the Software

First, download copy of the latest version of Data Protecto from: http://www.dataprotecto.com/

Make a signup for the software and enter your unique password.

Step 2: Password Protect Folders Tab

Go to the Password Protect Folders screen and in the Password Protect Folders & Files tab, you will see a window underneath the tab panel showing a list of locked files. Also note, if you are using this feature for the first time, this locked files list will be empty.

Step 3: Add Your Files

At this stage, you will have to add files and folders that you want to lock by simply dragging and dropping them in Password Protect Folders & Files or by clicking the ‘Add Item’ button.

Step 4: Pull Down Menu

After clicking the Add Item button, you will now see a pull down menu with options to add files and folders.

Step 5: Selection of Files and Destination

Now to add files to the protected list, simply click on the ‘File(s)’ option in the pull down menu, and select your desired files(s) from the path. Also if you want, you can select multiple files. Same procedure will go for folders and drives.

Step 6: Your Folders Are Now Password Protected

Your files, folders and drives containing your highly important pictures, videos, presentations, emails, documents and may other stuff are now protected. Also, this software also gives you an amazing option to protect or unprotect your individual items.
