Introduction: Perfect Chocolate Covered Strawberries for Valentine's Day

While chocolate covered strawberries are one of the most decadent and delicious chocolate treats - they can be somewhat tricky to make. Here's how to easily make chocolate covered strawberries at home. Get creative with the toppings - Try nuts, sprinkles, and different colored candy melts for a flare. Have fun and enjoy!

You'll Need:

Fresh Strawberries

Mini Chocolate Chips

1 tsp. Oil

Parchment paper or plastic wrap


Paper Towel

Optional: White Chocolate, Sprinkles

Step 1: Prep

Pick the freshest, prettiest strawberries from the bunch and give them a rinse and soak for at least 10 minutes. The soak will help to remove any pesticides from the berries.

Place the berries on paper towel to dry and pat each one individually. Allow to air dry for at least 5 minutes. The drying is probably the most important step so make sure they're completely dry.

Step 2: Melt Chocolate

Use or make a double boiler by putting your chocolate and oil in a glass or metal bowl. Fill a small pot with water and bring to a boil. The bowl should sit on top of the pot without the bottom of it touching the boiling water.

If this isn't an option, melt the chocolate in the microwave until melted, while stirring every 30 seconds.

Step 3: Dip and Sit

Prepare a plate by lining it with plastic wrap or parchment paper.

Using a toothpick or fork, stick the strawberry through the top and roll in the chocolate. Allow any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Carefully lay the berries onto the plate.

Complete those steps for every berry.

Step 4: Dip and Decorate

For chocolate chip strawberries:

After dipping the berries in chocolate, immediately dip into mini chocolate chips and roll until fully covered. Lay on a parchment lined baking sheet. Refrigerate the berries for 30 minutes or until the chocolate has fully set.

Step 5: Done

Finish bare berries with a white chocolate drizzle or candy melts.

For Valentine's Day, I like to drizzle the berries with pink candy melt.

Place each berry in a cupcake liner to serve.
