Introduction: Perler Bead Zip Tie Necklace

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

Growing up, I always love to experiment with perler beads. Now, that I have a ton of perler beads lying around in one of my plastic storage containers, I thought, why not make it into a necklace? It's a lot of fun to make, and it was inspired by Mark Montano, who created his YouTube video on his version of the beaded zip tie necklace!

Step 1: Get Your Materials

Here's what you will need to make it:

  • an assortment of perler beads
  • thin long zip ties
  • scissors
  • ribbon

Step 2: Prep Zip Ties

First, gather up about 12 or 13 perler beads, and string it on a zip tie. Then, pull the zip tie closed to make a link.

Step 3: Make Links

Continue this step, and you should have 3 chains: one with 13 links, one with 12 links, and one with 11 links. At this point, you will need 36 small links for this necklace, plus 2 more large ones, which you will get to see in the next step.

Step 4: Make 2 More Links

From there, take 2 more zip ties, and for each one, add 18 beads on them. Then, link each one around the 3 smaller links, one on each side.

Step 5: Add Ribbon

Now, cut 2 pieces of 12" ribbon, and tie them on either side of the necklace.

Step 6: Wear and Enjoy

Now, you can tie it around your neck and enjoy the ultimate colorful neck party!
