Introduction: Pi Pie

Hello everyone! I decided to make a pie out of pi to celebrate pi month. All of the measurements for this tasty dessert are 3.14 with a different unit.

This was a challenge for me because I have never baked a pie from scratch before and the recipe is almost completely made up. I do have a lot of experience with baking in general, so I just built off of that knowledge.

Supplies

Materials used:

Crust

  1. 3.14 oz all-purpose flour
  2. 3.14 g salt
  3. 3.14 tbsp unsalted butter
  4. 3.14 tsp water

Filling

  1. 3.14 oz apple
  2. 3.14 oz sugar
  3. 3.14 tsp flour
  4. 3.14 tsp honey
  5. 3.14 g cinnamon

Step 1: Planning

For the pie I wanted to make a mini one because I was not sure how great it would turn out. I didn't want to use up all of our ingredients on something inedible.

Because of this I had to do conversions from multiple different recipes online. Not only that, I also needed to find what unit I could convert the measurements to in order for them to all be 3.14.

Step 2: Crust

The first step for the baking process was to measure out the ingredients for the crust. We have this scale for baking which I used for most of the components because I found it to be more exact.

Step 3: Crust Cont.

Combining all the ingredients left me with a doughy mixture that I hand kneaded on a cutting board.

Step 4: Crust Cont.

I rolled the dough out with a rolling pin on a cutting board so I could cut out the crust's shape.

Step 5: Bake the Crust

I put the crust in the oven set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and baked it for 8 minutes. This step is key for the crust to fully bake.

Step 6: Filling

While the crust was cooking, I measured out the filling ingredients and mixed them in a large bowl.

Step 7: Put It All Together

When the crust was finished baking, I took it out of the oven and added the filling. I hadn't planned to add a top but there was left over crust, so I did a weave design. I put that in the oven and cooked it for 19 minutes, until the edges were golden brown.

Step 8: All Done!

While the Pi Pie was done baking, the smell was incredible, and I was surprised to see that it didn't fall apart in the oven.

Step 9: Yum

As soon as I cut the pie cinnamon juice spilled out but the slice, I got was still yummy even though it didn't look pretty. The filling was maybe a little too sweet and there was definitely too much salt in the crust, but in a weird way they balanced each other out. I don't recommend making pies with only 3.14 measurements but if you must this "recipe" is a good starting point.

All in all, I had a great time baking a pie with all the measurements being pi! Thank you.
