Pillow Cover From Old Sweater

Intro: Pillow Cover From Old Sweater

I recently bought a sweater from a thrift store to make some of my own knitted leg warmers. After that project was done I still had the majority of the sweater left. With the fake bone button and the fold over style I inspired to create a fall slip cover for my couch pillow.

STEP 1: Supplies

To make a sweater slip cover I used

A sweater

A pillow

Scissors

Sewing Machine

STEP 2: Measure Your Pillow

I started by slipping the pillow I wanted to cover into the sweater.

I did this to see how much I needed to cut on the bottom and the sides of the sweater to make the pillow

STEP 3: Sew Up Sides of Sweater

I started by flipping the sweater inside out and sewed up the side seams of the sweater.

After I flipped it back right side out and slipped the pillow back in to check for correct sizing.

STEP 4: Sew the Bottom

My next step was to sew the bottom of the sweater.

I started by pinning the sweater where I wanted the seam to be, then sewed it together, cutting after the seam.

STEP 5: Sew Off Top

The last step I had to do was sew off the top. The sweater I used had a bit of a collar so I had to do some folding to get the collar to sit correctly when sewn.

After sewing I chopped of the extra collar and folded it right side out again.

STEP 6: Finished

After the last of the sewing my pillow cover was finished. I was able to easily slip the pillow into the pillow form and create an awesome fall pillow look.

Enjoy!

I like this repurposing of a sweater. I am hoping you might have some other ideas about taking a 70 year old woman's "security" sweater [like a security blanket that has actual holes in spots of it. The pillow sounds like it might be the way to go....but will wait for your reply. Thank you
