Introduction: Plankton

About: I am Victor Lawrence. I am an artist, a scientist, a programmer and an hobbyist. My specialty lies in ORIGAMI and graphic arts namely 3D modeling and rendering , 2d graphics, games and web development

I have been using Tinkercad for a while now, what I like the most is it's simplicity and effectiveness. It is so simple to use that it should take less than an hour for you to learn the basics and make awesome 3d models.

Supplies

All you need to make a 3d model of plankton is Tinkercad , a web app that can be used to make 3d models of anything and is really easy to use.

So start your computer and open Tinkercad.com. If you haven't signed up, click on the sign up button in the menu bar located at the top of the page.

Step 1: Creating the Necessary Shapes.

You need to create all the shapes necessary for the 3d plankton model.

1 ) Create two spheres for the eye and the pupil.

2 ) A capsule for the body. ( check the second picture for where the capsule model can be found. )

3 ) A paraboloid for the limbs and antenna.

4 ) A half-sphere for the shoulders.

Step 2: Dimensions Dimensions Dimensions.

The dimensions of the shapes are in a specific format of { length * breadth * height }.

1 ) 1st Sphere [17*7*17]

2 ) 2nd sphere [41*29*53]

3 ) Capsule [ 65*65*146]

4 ) Paraboloid [10*10*58.03]

5) The Half Sphere [10*10*11.03]

Step 3: Colours

Let's make the shape look like they should.

1st sphere (red)

2nd sphere (yellow)

Capsule (dark green)

paraboloid (dark green)

half-sphere (dark green)

Step 4: Assemble !

All that's left is putting all of the ingredients together to make our delicious meal.

(insert plankton laugh ).

1) Put the half-sphere on the paraboloid ( as in the pictures above) then blend them together using the blend tool to make an egg-like shape and make 5 copies of the blended shape. Now you have six of the shapes which will serve as the limbs and antennae.

2) After raising the capsule off the workspace, select two out of the blended shapes and drag it into the bottom of the capsule. ( the legs ).

3) Select another copy of the blended object and place it at the right side of the capsule (to form the right arm). After , tilt the arm by 15 degrees , repeat this for the left arm ( tilt the left arm by -15 degrees ).

4) Select another copy of the bended object and place it on the right top of the capsule ( to serve as the right antenna ) , tilt the antenna by 15 degree . Repeat for the left antenna ( tilt the left antenna by -15 degree ).

5) Select the yellow sphere and place it as shown in the picture above ( to serve as the eye ). , next , select the red sphere and put it into the center of the yellow sphere.

6) To make the eyebrow , select the shape meta capsule and set it's dimensions as shown in the picture or Scribble the shape of an eyebrow and then place it on top of the yellow sphere.

7) To make the mouth, create a square 3d model and adjust the height to 5 , width to and length to . You then place it at an appropriate distance from the eye and your 3d model of plankton is complete.

Step 5: Post Processing ( Optional ).

Use the mining tool found at the top to make the 3d model look like minecraft blocks.

I personally think it looks better this way.

If you'd like you can use a 3d printer to make a real life copy of the model.

Step 6: Exportation & Use

To Export your finished Plankton model, you have to click the “Export” button in the tool bar.
You may choose 3D printing(if you possess a 3D printer) or click “Copy link to design page” to copy the link for model export which includes OBJ or STL model exportation. You can find my finished Plankton Model on http://www.tinkercad.com/things/0TyLr4ZITAm
