Introduction: Pokémon Wooden Cards | Laser Cut, Wood Craft, Pokémon
Inspired by my classic multi-layer Christmas ornaments, here’s a super fun laser-cutting project that turns pure natural wood tones into stunning 3D Pokémon wooden cards. No paint, no staining—just the beautiful contrast between light birch plywood and rich cherry wood, plus a bit of wood glue. Your Pokémon will literally pop out of the wood!
Supplies
Materials (enough for all 5 cards)
- 3 mm birch plywood (a few A4 or larger sheets)
- 3 mm cherry plywood or solid cherry (a few sheets)
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
Tools
- NEJE 20w laser cutter
- Light-Burn
Step 1: Upload the File
Open the pokemon file in your design software. Split the design into two files, one per wood type. Set up your workspace, securing the wood on the laser bed (with magnetic clamps or tape).

Step 2: Laser Cutting and Engraving
Material: 3 mm birch & 3 mm cherry
- Cutting: 400mm/min, 100 % power
- Engraving line): 5000mm/min, 70%power
- Engraving (fill): 15000mm/min, 80%power
Step 3: Assembly
Step-by-Step Assembly
- First, place the bottom ply face down and apply a thin layer of wood glue.
- Then place the next cherry wood on top, aligning the rounded corners. Gently press for 30 seconds, then secure with clips or a weight.
- Repeat these steps until all parts, including the instruction area, the Pokémon frame, and the Pokémon, are glued to the birch plywood.
- After the final layer is glued, let it cure for 1-2 hours (a book makes a good pressing tool).
Optional: Apply a thin layer of beeswax or mineral oil to the cherry wood—this will enhance the color.
Step 4: Enjoy Your Works!
You now have five gorgeous all-wood Pokémon wooden cards!
Display them, gift them, or hang them —they look amazing anywhere.(Just remember don't glue the wrong pokémon like I did XD )
