Introduction: Police Scanner Installed in 2005 Mustang
Old police and emergency communication scanners have gotten pretty cheap. Many of the older ones don't trunk track but can still be used to pick up police and EMT signals, it's just takes a little more listening to follow the conversations. I had an old Bearcat scanner gathering dust on my desk and decided to put it in an old Mustang. The car had an aftermarket stereo installed that opened up a space below the radio that was perfect for the scanner. The scanner did require some custom cutting to fit but came out pretty well.
Thanks for taking a look.

The best channel to listen to is CB radio in the 27 MHz band. Channel 19 the truckers will always tell what the traffic jam is caused by, and what lane to get into. Not all scanners pickup the CB band so look before you buy one.

Depending on how in depth you want to go, you can also take the tuning crystal from an old CB and install it in the scanner for one of the factory preset buttons. Example if the scanner has the marine band (used for boaters) and you aren't in an area where this band of frequencies would be listened to (or you have no interest in listening to), swap the crystal for the CB crystal and now you have a preset button for listening to the CB Radio.
